The HONOR MagicBook X 16 is a pretty solid laptop for productivity, regardless of whether you’re a student or you’re using this for work. It’s hard to find one with such a high value proposition, especially for a 16-inch laptop, and it gets even more attractive if you’re an HONOR or HUAWEI smartphone user with the Magic-link feature.

All-in-all, to most of you nerds reading this, the Honor MagicBook X 16 is a mixed bag. But for the whole family, this is a solid big screen laptop for productivity and binge watching. There’s enough horsepower for running all your basic needs, and thermal management that keeps everything cool. The keyboard and touchpad could do with some work, and we desperately need a better webcam for those Zoom calls. But at the price you’re paying, this is an admirable effort from Honor. So set your expectations accordingly. As a home-based laptop for the parents and kids alike, this will handily do the job.

Since entering the laptop market in 2018, Honor has made a modest name for itself as a purveyor of cheap and powerful notebooks. In 2022, the MagicBook 16 proved the brand is doing well for itself, following budget brilliance in the form of MagicBook Pro or MagicBook 14. The MagicBook X16 is the latest in this line of low-price business devices and has big shoes to fill. Much like its less-powerful sibling the MagicBook 16, the Honor MagicBook X16 is an attractive if not especially sleek laptop. Visually, it's very similar to a Macbook, with simple curved edges and a brushed-metal look. Up close and personal, the device feels professional and well put together. It's constructed from aluminum alloy, with a thin bezel around the display At 1.75kg, the MagicBook is on the heavy side. It's noticeably heavier than a Macbook Pro, something of an oddity given its comparatively poor performance when it comes to intensive tasks.

Under the hood, the laptop runs a proven 12th Gen Intel Core i5-12350H processor with 8GB LPDDR4 RAM, a 512GB SSD and Intel UHD Graphics. There is no expansion slot for the SSD and the RAM is soldered in so upgrade options are somewhat limited. For demanding tasks, the laptop features a high performance mode by pressing Fn and P together that kicks up the laptop up to 40W and has dual heat pipes and an underside cooling fan to keep heat under control. The Honor MagicBook X 16 2024 also has a novel Honor Connect mode that allows users to link a compatible Honor smartphone or tablet running MagicOS 7.0 and up for fast file sharing and the ability to take calls on the laptop itself from a phone like the recently released Honor Magic6 Pro. Keeping it powered is a 42Wh battery that is quoted to last up to 9 hours of 1080p video playback.

In 2014 Huawei created the sub brand Honor and offers certain smartphone series under this name. Occasionally the products are also called Huawei Honor.
The market share of Honor products is manageable, but there are several reviews on Honor smartphones with average ratings (as of 2016).
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

AMD Hawk Point (Zen 4/4c):
R7 8845HS: A powerful Hawk Point family chip that saw the light of day in H2 2023. We believe the 8845HS to be an R7 7840HS in disguise but with higher clock speeds on the Ryzen AI NPU. The 8845HS features 8 cores (16 threads thanks to SMT support) running at up to 5.1 GHz. Last but not the least, the Radeon 780M serves as the integrated GPU.
