With the new MagicBook Art 14, Honor offers a great subnotebook with a high-resolution OLED touchscreen and a Meteor Lake processor. The attachable webcam is also a real innovation that works excellently. Cooling is provided by a vapor chamber.

It’s difficult to comment on value without UK or EU pricing just yet, but if Honor gets it right, it could be on to a winner with the MagicBook Art 14. Its offering of an Intel Core Ultra 7, 32GB of RAM and 1TB of speedy SSD storage delivers solid everyday performance and it offers over 10 hours of battery life that bests competing ultrabooks. It’s also a bit of a looker, with a unique design and a modular webcam that allows for refreshingly thin bezels around the screen. That 14.6-inch OLED screen is also noteworthy, sporting touchscreen support, a smooth 120Hz refresh rate and a pixel-packed 3.1K resolution that’s great for number crunching and binging YouTube. It might not have the fastest SSD storage speeds around, and the lack of a discrete GPU option means creatives may need to look elsewhere, but those looking for a dependable, portable workhorse will find the Honor MagicBook Art 14 to be a great option.

When we first saw Honor's new MagicBook Art 14 up-close at its IFA 2024 launch, we were impressed - and even more so once we went hands-on the ultra-slim, ultra-lightweight laptop, with its smooth vine-leaf design and performance-led specs. So, away from the bright lights of the big tech event, and armed with our trusty benchmarking software, we were keen to put the hardware to the test. In short, the Honor MagicBook Art 14 is a great choice for anyone wanting an ultra-portable laptop without sacrificing power or screen size. To ensure there's ample power for creative tasks, this laptop features the latest Intel Core Ultra processor, which is partnered with Arc Graphics. This helps to deliver solid performance on the 14.6-inch screen for a range of uses, including power-hungry creative applications like Photoshop and Resolve. Comparisons to the similarly creator-driven Apple MacBook Air are inevitable.

The HONOR MagicBook Art 14 is a great laptop, there’s no denying that. It’s made out of premium materials, thin, light, has a great keyboard, offers good performance, and much more. It’s not perfect, of course, but still… it’s a fantastic offering from HONOR. Considering all that, it’s not exactly cheap. This is an ultrabook, basically, and it’s in the premium range. If you do have the money to get it, and you’re looking for a true productivity machine that is easy to carry around despite its 14.6-inch display… it doesn’t get much better than this, especially if you want a Windows OS pre-installed.

Between testing various devices professionally, and some catastrophically bad luck/decision making on a personal level, I've spent a lot of time on a lot of laptops over the last couple of years. As far as work-focused machines go, this ranks amongst the best and may actually be king of the silicon mountain. It ticks all of the boxes when it comes to a travel laptop. It's light, it doesn't feel like it's about to combust the second you dare open more than three tabs on Chrome, the battery life is enough to get you through a full working day, it charges via USB-C, the speakers are nice, the screen is fantastic, and it's very comfortable to type on. If I was in the market for a new work laptop, this isn't even a case of "it would be a strong contender," I'd just buy this one.

In terms of design, Honor is largely onto a winner. The thin and lightweight nature of the MagicBook 14 Art has to be held to be believed, especially with a high-end 14.6-inch screen and pretty powerful internals packed within. There are some early concerns, especially with durability with noticeable flex in the chassis, but that – and full benchmark testing – will be properly addressed in our full review, coming very soon.

With the MagicBook Art 14, Honor is offering a lightweight 14-inch subnotebook (1 kg) with a fast Snapdragon X Elite processor including vapor chamber cooling, a great 120 Hz 3K OLED touchscreen and an attachable webcam. However, buyers will have to do without USB 4.

Honor:
In 2014 Huawei created the sub brand Honor and offers certain smartphone series under this name. Occasionally the products are also called Huawei Honor.
The market share of Honor products is manageable, but there are several reviews on Honor smartphones with average ratings (as of 2016).
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
Intel Arc 8-Core: Integrated graphics adapter based on the Xe LPG architecture (similar to the dedicated Arc GPUs, but with a focus on efficiency). Provides all 8 Xe cores (128 Xe vector engines) and 8 ray tracing units.
Qualcomm Adreno X1-85 3.8 TFLOPS: An integrated graphics adapter that four Qualcomm Snapdragon X processors feature, as of Sep 2024. It has 1,536 unified shaders at its disposal that are said to run at up to 1,250 MHz. The underlying architecture is reportedly in many respects the same as what was used in the Adreno 730. While thankfully faster than the aging Intel Iris Xe (96 EUs), the Adreno fails to match the Radeon 780M meaning Baldur's Gate 3, a triple-A title released in 2023, is barely playable at 1080p on low with 23 fps on average. Triple-A games of 2024 fare even worse, in no small part due to Qualcomm's subpar graphics drivers.

Intel Meteor Lake-H:
Ultra 7 155H: A high-end Meteor Lake chip that debuted in December 2023. This 1st Gen Core Ultra processor has come to replace 13th generation Core chips; it has 16 cores (6 + 8 + 2) and 22 threads at its disposal. Its Performance cores, of which there are 6, run at up to 4.8 GHz while its Efficient cores, of which there are 10 (8 main cores plus 2 extra ones found in the Low Power Island) run at up to 3.8 GHz. The integrated AI Boost NPU offers two Gen 3 engines for hardware AI workload acceleration. This laptop processor's Base power consumption is 28 W while its Turbo power consumption is supposed to stay within 115 W.
Qualcomm Snapdragon X:
SD X Elite X1E-80-100: A pretty fast ARM architecture processor (SoC) for use in Windows laptops. The X1E-80-100 is the second-fastest member of the Snapdragon X series, as of May 2024; as such, it has 12 Oryon CPU cores running at up to 4.0 GHz, the 3.8 TFLOPS Adreno X1-85 GPU, the 45 TOPS Hexagon NPU and an impressively fast LPDDR5x-8448 memory controller. USB 4.0, TB 4 and PCIe 4 support is onboard, too.
