Reviews for the Honor 7X

80% Honor 7X Review: A Great Smartphone Value
Source: Tom's Guide English Archive.org version
No $200 smartphone is perfect, but the Honor 7X is a jack of all trades not a perfectionist. It's arguably the best balance of design, performance and features in its class, even if its rivals do certain things a little better. The $229 Moto G5 Plus offers a marginally more powerful processor and a faster-charging battery. There's also a case to be made for the ZTE Blade V8 Pro, which features a USB Type-C port and now costs $20 less than Honor's latest.

For audio, you get Huawei’s Histen effects which lets you either play with the EQ or enable a ‘3D sound’ mode where you can adjust a slider from Near to Front to Wide. Unlike on the Mate 10 Pro, those 3D modes seemed ineffective, and it was far more useful having a customisable equaliser to add bass.

Huawei continues to improve on the Honor line with the 7X and i feel at its price point you get a well crafted smartphone with decent features to help you on your daily tasks. Suprisingly enough the 7X rings in at $199.99 which is cheaper then the Honor 6X that came before it at $250. If you are interested in picking up a 7X, they will be discounted to $179.99 through various retailers such as HiHonor, Amazon, Newegg and B&H for the Labor Day Weekend from 8/31-9/5.

Source: Slashgear English Archive.org version
The Huawei-made Honor 7x is a perfect example of the China-base brand’s utter lack of fear for competition in the global budget phone market. This is a lower-end-of-highest-tier smartphone masquerading as a budget phone. If it weren’t for the pricetag of $200 (or thereabouts – even less in some stores right this minute), I’d swear it was aiming to do battle with Apple’s iPhone 8.

It's hard to believe just how much phone you can get these days for only $200. Budget phones aren’t all created equal. All budget phones are going to come with some compromises, and the Honor 7X has its fair share. But I do think this is one of the best budget phones on the market right now, and it has more plusses than it does minuses in the overall big picture. I think budget-minded buyers would be served well with this device. The snobbier smartphone buyers need not apply.

Here in the United States, there's a big gap in the phones that people buy. Most customers either buy a premium handset that costs over $800 - usually on an installment plan from a carrier - or they buy something that costs under $200 and pay full price. The Honor 7X fits quite nicely in the latter, because I'm not sure that there's anything better for the $199 price point.

Running a combination of Android 7.0 (Nougat) and EMUI 5.1, a boot-up from cold takes 35 seconds (not a speed record but reasonable). The overall performance delivered by the Honor 7X is of a reasonable standard apart from the disappointing length of time produced by the video viewing test. Switching between apps was acceptable with smooth scrolling and minimal delays. Overall the Honor 7X is a welcome addition to the Huawei family of products.

Honor 7X review: The most phone you can get for under $200
Source: Good Gear Guide English Archive.org version
The camera quality and lack of wireless charging are to be expected for a budget phone, but the display more than makes up for them. Simply put, you won't find a screen this big or on another phone in this price range. Pixel for pixel, it even competes with the Mate 10 Pro, which is four times the price. The lack of USB-C is the one major drawback—which was driven home every time I had to plug it in.

If you're on a strict budget and don't mind microUSB, the Honor 7X should definitely be on your shortlist of handsets. Keep in mind that it's an international unlocked phone, so Verizon and Sprint customers are out of luck (and don't count on that changing anytime soon). Despite the odd pricing between storage options, the Honor 7X has plenty of things going for it, including it’s 18:9 display and slightly better CPU performance (not GPU) in comparison to the Xiaomi Mi A1. But then again, the build quality and camera performance (in daylight at least) stand out, making it a better choice over the Xiaomi Mi A1. If you ask me, the 32 GB storage version (priced at Rs 12,999) is quite the deal even when compared to a high-end version of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4.

The Honor 7X is shaping up like an easy phone to recommend. $200 gets you a solid, good-looking phone, with a tall, 18:9 screen and peppy performance. EMUI 5.1 feels rather tired and a bit cartoonish, but the functionality and performance within give the user much customization and plenty of speed in day-to-day tasks. As for the camera, it does seem promising, but we'll have to test it further before we give it our final verdict.

For what it's worth, the honor 7X is a worthy mid-range smartphone that possesses a good camera, good battery life, reasonable performance and a pretty sturdy body yet looks fairly good at the same time. At $200, the Honor 7X is priced similarly to the Moto G5 Plus. It has a sleek build that incorporates a tall, 18:9 aspect ratio to maximize screen real estate, along with solid overall performance, and decent camera capabilities. The G5 Plus, meanwhile, gets you a traditional aspect ratio, stock Android, and longer battery life. It's a slightly better choice than the Honor 7X for most users, but if you prefer the 18:9 design, by all means get the Honor—the differences in performance are negligible. If you're looking for an even more affordable option, the Moto E4 offers just enough power to meet basic phone needs.

The build quality and general resilience of the design (mostly metal) might be something to consider as well because, in the $200 range, many phones tend to feature more plastic parts. The Honor 7X starts at Rs. 12,999 for the 32 GB variant and we think the device is right up there with any of the well-established smartphones falling in this range. For its price point, it has no glaring shortcomings. It has a great display, good battery life, performs well, has a super rich UI and has a decent camera which actually makes it a tough competitor for most of the devices in this price bracket, which includes the likes of the Xiaomi Mi A1, the Moto G5s Plus, the Lenovo K8 Note and the Nokia 5 and even the good old Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 which is a bit elderly but is still in running. The very fact that the Honor 7X can easily hold its own in this company tells you just how good it is. Honor 7X first impressions: A premium minimal bezel phone priced a fifth of the Apple iPhone X
Source: Zdnet.com English Archive.org version
AppleCare for the new iPhone X is $199, so when you realize that you can buy an entire phone, the Honor 7X, for the price of just insurance on a $1,000 iPhone X it makes you think long and hard about the high cost of Apple's newest flagship.

This screen-filling smartphone doesn't cost a fortune, and although it's got a few niggling issues, it's hard to complain too much given the price.

From now on, this is the phone I will be recommending for those that have a little less to spend and still want the best possible experience. At a cost of $199, it offers a stellar experience and its shortcomings are not as large given the affordable price.

74% Huawei Honor 7X Review
Source: Think Digit English Archive.org version
For Rs 13,000 device, the Honor 7X isn’t the best. It has a great display and good battery life and the overall performance is average at best. It loses out to the Mi A1 as far as the camera is concerned and graphically heavy games like Asphalt 8 stutter on the device. You can consider it if you aren’t a heavy smartphone user and like reading content or watching movies on the go, as the display on the smartphone is indeed good. But if the camera is something you are finicky about and aren't a fan of skinned OSes, then you may want to consider your options.

For now, there’s no official announcement of the pricing yet, the price should be closer to the Honor 6X. We will be playing around with the phone to find out more things. Be sure to check our full review once we are done with it.

100% Honor 7X Review: The most gorgeous mid-range mobile?
Source: Recombu English Archive.org version
Unfortunately we can’t actually reveal the UK asking price of the Honor 7X as we post this review, as costing info is all under embargo until the official launch on December 5th. However, what we can say is that this sleek and sexy handset offers very strong value for money. You get a feature-packed dual lens camera, attractive full-sized screen and a solid overall user experience, for less cash than a lot of other mid-range mobiles.

Honor does pretty much everything right with the 7X. It looks like a much more expensive phone than it is (price is still to be confirmed though), has a headphone jack and offers a choice of dual-SIM or expandable memory.

Honor 7X initial review: Adding 18:9 screen X factor to the affordable phone market
Source: Pocket Lint English Archive.org version
Although there's no official UK price just yet, a little digging online reveals that the Honor 7X ought to launch in and around the £279-299 price range (as that's how much you can buy it for right now on various channels). That's quite a bargain for a good-looking and capable 18:9 ratio phone, ensuring Honor holds strong against its OnePlus and LG competition.

Honor 7X First Impressions: High-end features at an affordable price tag!
Source: The Mobile Indian English Archive.org version
The Honor 7X does come loaded with a sleek design and the bezel-less 18:9 display is one of the strongest points of this device. The dual rear cameras do a pretty decent job in broad daylight and the hardware surely looks promising. As for the competition is concerned, the smartphone will face a stiff competition with the likes of Xiaomi Mi A1, Gionee M7 Power, Motorola Moto G5s Plus and more.

Source: GSM Arena English Archive.org version
Our first impressions are overwhelmingly positive - the Honor 7X is shaping up as a solid midrange device. We can't wait to see what sort of a price it would get outside of China because its starting price of USD200 there is quite tempting.

Comment

Model: The Honor 7X is the result of 28 prototypes and 15 months of design development work. The in-hand comfort is exceptional, and Honor has managed to sidestep the common problem of slipperiness too. Even with a light grip, the Honor 7X never feels like it is going to escape from the hand. For a very reasonable price, a user can benefit from modern trends and features such as narrow bezels and dual lenses, which is a fantastic choice. The body is made of metal, and the glass on the front has a 2.5D curved effect, blending in perfectly with the rounded sides of the phone. The back of the Honor 7X is flat, with a matte blue finish on our review model. There is also a fast fingerprint sensor in an easy to locate, recessed and chamfered spot. In the top, left are two pronounced camera lenses. It is here where more savings are made, because the camera lenses on the Huawei P10, Mate 10, and even the Honor 9 are flush against the rear panel. To look at the Honor 7X it is nice and functional if not exactly jaw-dropping. The biggest selling point in terms of aesthetics is definitely the 82.9 % screen-to-body ratio. It is not quite as impressive as something like the S8 or the iPhone X but it puts it ahead of the Pixel 2XL even which can only claim 76.4 %. The bigger screen does not necessarily mean a bigger phone, and the advantages of an 18:9 aspect ratio screen are there. More content fits on the screen in landscape format and gaming and videos get more immersive. The display menu in settings provides a full-screen mode, where a user can choose which apps automatically open up and use the total length of screen available. It often pops up in-app too, to save jumping into the settings. Sadly, there is no way to hide the Android navigation buttons like there is on the Mate 10 Pro.

The dual camera lenses, which sit inside two raised bumps on the back of the phone, are perhaps the least visually-pleasing part of the phone. But it is easily forgivable because they perform well. Due to sharing the same Android user interface as other Huawei phones, the Honor 7X’s camera app will be familiar to anyone who has used the Huawei P10 or Mate 9. The app is simple, logical, and packed full of features. Slide to the left to show the options list, and slide to the right for different camera modes. Icons for special features are shown along the top of the screen. The main f/2.2 aperture lens has 16 MP, but the secondary lens has only 2 MP. The second camera does not exclusively shoot in monochrome, unlike many Huawei phones. The dual cameras work together to produce a bokeh or blur effect. The software has also been tweaked to speed up wide-aperture focusing by six times, and improve low-light performance. In terms of power, the Honor 7X is sporting a Kirin 659 octa-core processor, running four cores at 2.36 GHz and four at 1.7 GHz and with a Mali T830 GPU. For those looking for extra storage, the Honor 7X will take an SD card up to 256 GB. The Honor 7x is practically a cheaper Huawei Nova 2i, which is also a budget 18:9 aspect ratio device from Huawei. It is almost completely identical in all ways and is definitely a better choice. Other alternatives include the Oppo F5 and Vivo V7 Plus.

Hands-on article by Jagadisa Rajarathnam

Honor, being a subsidiary of Huawei, focuses on producing affordable mid-range phones. Its latest offering, the Honor 7X uses this idea to create a 2017 flagship-like phone at lesser than half the price of a flagship. To begin with, the Honor 7X comes in black, blue and gold. The design is very 2017 with no buttons on the front part and a 77% screen to body ratio. This is made possible by the 18:9 screen aspect ratio which gives a bigger screen in a smaller form factor. The body is made from metal all around, giving it a premium feel and the matte finish manages to stay away from fingerprints quite well. The case is rounded at the edges making this phone easy to be held and stay well in its user’s hands. It weighs in at 165 grams and has a dimension of 156.5 x 75.3 x 7.6 mm. The Honor 7X comes with a 5.93-inch IPS LCD with a resolution of 1.080 x 2.160 pixels giving it a density of 407 ppi. Its viewing angles are good, but its brightness can be low for usage under direct sunlight. Unlike recent flagships, the screen is not rounded at the edges to match its body. This give a rather weird look to the front part when the screen is turned on. At the bottom is the micro USB charging port, a speaker and a headphone jack. It is loud enough for regular usage and frankly, nothing more can be expected from a smartphone in this price range.

At the back is the dual camera, a flash and a center positioned fingerprint reader. The Honor 7X has one of the fastest fingerprint readers among smartphones. It unlocks the phone instantly every time it is used. The Honor 7X manages to keep up with another 2017 trend which is the dual camera setup. Its primary camera is a 16MP sensor and the secondary one is a 2 MP lens used mainly for enhancing photos in the portrait mode. The 8 MP front camera can also take good portrait mode photos by using some software enhancements. This feature is also seen in other similar budget devices like the Oppo F5, Huawei Nova 2i and Vivo V7+. In terms of performance, the Honor 7X is equipped with a Kirin 659 octa-core processor, 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of built in memory. It will also take in a micro SD card with up to 256 GB. These specs give it more than enough power to navigate through the UI and apps without any lag. It will also play most of the games on the playstore with minimum to medium graphics setting. The Honor 7X is shipped with EMUI 5.1 running on top of Android 7.0 Nougat. It might get the Android 8.0 update but this has not been confirmed by Huawei. It has a 3340 mAh battery which supports fast charging even with that micro USB port. It will charge up to 55 % in about an hour, which is good enough. Early reports from users also say that the software is optimized well enough to give it a good battery life. The Honor 7X joins the budget friendly flagship like smartphones towards the end of 2017. For its price, it offers quite a lot and will definitely make it into many pockets. It main competitors are the Huawei Nova 2i, Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus, Vivo V7+ and Oppo F5. It has some good features to stay on top of this devices but falls short in some areas.

5.93":

It is a very small display format for smartphones. You should by no means be mis-sighted and you will generally see very little on the screen and only have a small resolution available. In return, the device should be very small and handy.

Honor:

In 2014 Huawei created the sub brand Honor and offers certain smartphone series under this name. Occasionally the products are also called Huawei Honor.

The market share of Honor products is manageable, but there are several reviews on Honor smartphones with average ratings (as of 2016).

77.65%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
