HomePod mini 2: Apple refreshes compact smart speaker with new version

Apple has finally updated the HomePod mini with a new generation, having refreshed its first-generation model twice with new colour options. Incidentally, the company has upgraded the Apple TV 4K too, while also releasing the HomeView with a 7-inch display.
As for the HomePod mini, Apple has upgraded its compact speaker to the Apple S10 that also powers the Watch Series 10. While a comparatively old chipset, Apple claims the Apple S10 can optimise acoustic performance, dynamic range and loudness in real time, which the S10 in the original HomePod mini could not.

Also, the HomePod mini 2 can be added to a home theatre set-up when paired with the Apple TV 4K (4th generation). Currently, four HomePod mini 2 speakers can be paired simultaneously, or two HomePod mini 2 speakers with two larger HomePods (curr. $302 - refurbished on Amazon). Elsewhere, Apple has added Sound Glow, a feature that allows the speaker's top panel to glow and pulse in time to music.
Moreover, Apple has packaged all these changes inside an 84.3 x 97.9 mm housing that weighs 335 g. At launch, the HomePod mini 2 can be picked up in Blue, Green, Midnight, Pink and White finishes. All colours retail for $149 in the US, £149 in the UK and €169 in the Eurozone.
The HomePod mini 2 is available to purchase from today in the US and more than two dozen other countries. However, pre-orders will not begin shipping until October 30. Please see Apple's website for more details.
