Harry Potter series could finally restore the biggest omission from the first film

In Warner Bros.’ Harry Potter films, several supporting characters were cut for time. HBO’s series adaptation, by contrast, is expected to devote an entire season to each book. As a result, fans may finally get to see characters who never appeared properly on screen before. Even in season 1, there are already a few notable omissions from the films, including Professor Binns, the ghost who teaches History of Magic, and Charlie Weasley. While there are no signs of those characters yet, another figure from the first book has already surfaced in official concept art – and he was arguably the most glaring omission from the first Harry Potter film: Peeves the poltergeist.
Anyone familiar with the books or with Hogwarts Legacy will know that Peeves is not one of Hogwarts’ ordinary house ghosts, but a true poltergeist – effectively the castle’s personified nuisance. He floats through the corridors, throws objects around and takes clear pleasure in driving students to distraction. In the books, he repeatedly inserts himself into events and adds a great deal of energy to the story. Exactly how he might affect the series remains to be seen, but his presence would likely make this version of Hogwarts feel considerably more chaotic.
Reactions on Reddit to the idea of Peeves appearing in a live-action Harry Potter adaptation for the first time have been largely positive. Many fans see the cheeky poltergeist as an essential part of the original books. The design shown so far, however, has met with little approval. Since this is only concept art, the final version of Peeves could still look quite different. One important caveat remains: the assumption that Peeves will appear in the series is based solely on a concept drawing from the making-of documentary Finding Harry: The Craft Behind the Magic. HBO has not yet officially confirmed his appearance.
