Hades II has finally launched, with fans eagerly clamouring to get back to the dungeon-crawling indie roguelike inspired by Greek mythology. Within the first 24 hours after Hades II launched, it passed 100,000 concurrent players on Steam alone.

Hades II finally launched earlier this week as the sequel to the ever-popular roguelike based on characters from Greek mythology, and despite having launched less than two days ago, Hades II has already reached more than double the concurrent player count of its predecessor.

According to data from SteamDB, Hades II has already reached 101,872 concurrent players on Steam within the first 24 hours after its launch. This puts the new Supergiant game in 10th place on the concurrent players chart on SteamDB.

For context, SteamDB's highest recorded concurrent player count for the original Hades is 40,332, which seems to have been spurred on partially by the launch of the sequel and a sale, which saw the original title drop to just $8.49.

Hades II's predecessor was a massive hit thanks to its strong voice acting, unique storytelling, charming art style, and overall level of polish. It also helped that Hades was kind of the perfect game for the Steam Deck, with controller-optimised gameplay and moderate system requirements.

Unlike the first instalment, which follows Zagreus, son of Hades, as he escapes the underworld and his father, Hades II follows the story of Melinoë, princess of the underworld, as she descends the depths of her father's realm to rescue her family from the titan Chronos.

Hades II is rated Platinum on ProtonDB, so it will work nearly flawlessly on Steam Deck, and its lightweight system requirements mean it will also run very smoothly on the likes of the Asus ROG Ally (curr. $699.99 from Best Buy) and Lenovo Legion Go (curr. $699.99 from Lenovo US).
