HP's latest laptop does lots of things right. It's got more physical connectivity than any rival, its battery lasts all day, and it has an exceptional keyboard inside a sturdy, good-looking chassis. It doesn't deliver workstation performance, though, and it's thicker and lighter than rivals. The screen is poor. The price isn't convincing: the Dell might not have the connectivity and battery life of the HP, but it costs £1,008 exc VAT if you spec it up with a Core i5-1240P and 16GB of memory. The MSI Prestige 14 falls behind in connectivity and longevity, but it costs just £707 exc VAT. There's no doubt that the ZBook justifies its price if you want great battery life, superb build quality, a fantastic keyboard and loads of ports. But it's not the fastest, slimmest or lightest, and you should look elsewhere if you want a good screen.

The 2022 edition of HP’s ZBook FireFly 14 G9 sports a slim metal chassis and a 16:10 aspect ratio display with our optional wide gamut, 500 nit DreamColor display. It’s also available as a 16” model, if you find this 14” too confining. This is the Ultrabook sub-line in the ZBook franchise, with the ZBook Power and ZBook Fury being the more powerful mobile workstation alternatives. Unlike most Ultrabooks, the FireFly G9 is available with NVIDIA T550 and RTX A500 dedicated graphics, and it has two RAM slots for upgrades. This is an Intel 12th gen laptop with Thunderbolt 4, USB-A and HDMI ports and a host of corporate-friendly features like self-healing BIOS, tamper detection, a spill proof keyboard and a 5MP Windows Hello webcam.

Unless you’re a content creator a mobile worker who is into product designing, or STEM or are a technical and creative manager, then no. There are other laptops with better CPU and GPU options that are better and can double down for gaming, too. In using the HP ZBook Firefly G9, I’ll say it’s a great laptop for the right person and market. I really enjoyed general day-to-day usage, but I hated the battery life and the poor cooling and thermals. The HP Zbook Firefly Z9 is a great laptop for 2D content creators thanks to the Nvidia T550 GPU, as well as the beautiful DreamColor display

There are hardly any tablets in this display size range anymore. For subnotebooks, on the other hand, it is the standard format.
The advantage of subnotebooks is that the entire laptop can be small and therefore easily portable. The smaller display also has the advantage of requiring less power, which further improves battery life and thus mobility. The disadvantage is that reading texts is more strenuous on the eyes. High resolutions are more likely to be found in standard laptops.
