Reviews for the HP Envy x2 LTE

80% HP Envy x2 review: an elegant design and excellent battery life elevate this classy Windows 10 2-in-1
Source: T3 English Archive.org version
Boy does this 2-in-1 have style and versatility. I love the look of the thing and it feels great in the hand, too. Top audio credentials, 4G LTE connectivity, and a simply awesome battery life add a sweet level of boon on top. I'm still not convinced by Windows 10 S, though, and the system's power to price ratio remains out of kilter when compared to other similarly priced systems.

80% HP Envy x2 review: Always-on LTE and an atrocious keyboard
Source: Engadget English Archive.org version
The HP Envy x2 (Intel) is a beautiful, capable detachable with one noteworthy drawback. It lets you keep working wherever you go, thanks to the Intel XMM 7360 radio, and you can use all the apps you'd like. Though it loses to Snapdragon PCs on battery life, the Intel-powered Envy x2 should still get you through a workday (and then some). Too bad its keyboard folio is too flimsy and finicky to use on your lap -- you’ll definitely need a sturdy surface to get work done.

If you hate having to carry a laptop charger around everywhere you go, but still really need a Windows PC with the ability to run full Windows programs, the HP Envy x2 with Qualcomm ARM system on a chip is the tablet PC that you should really look into. Having an LTE radio built in for a large wireless internet access coverage area, along with the battery life that can last a week could be extremely attractive to some users. Sorry you can’t have everything though. That great battery life and always-connected work-life that you get from the Qualcomm ARM processor in this tablet comes at the cost of performance when we’re talking about running the real programs that you might need while out and about. Still, the fact that you can even run those real programs on a processor that’s used in smartphones is a pretty big deal and certainly will help you out in a pinch.

So, overall then, I can recommend the HP Envy x2, but suggest that you ask yourself what you need and prize from a hybrid system before you pull the trigger. The HP Envy x2 is not the most powerful hybrid by far thanks to that ARM-based architecture, and for the money you can get more punchy systems, but it is one of the most capable and versatile in terms of a tablet use and light-computing, offering outstanding battery life and a good all-round supporting package.

While this first Snapdragon 835 Windows device isn’t impressive, I don’t think the entire platform is dead after a single wave of releases. If Qualcomm and Microsoft work on removing some of the platform limitations, allow the use of newer Snapdragon processors, and encourage companies to make entry-level devices priced appropriately, Intel and AMD could have a serious competitor in the sub-$500 market. But right now, Windows on ARM won’t succeed as a high-end product.

HP Envy x2 Hands-on: Our early verdict on the Snapdragon 835-powered laptop
Source: Trusted Reviews English Archive.org version
Since the HP Envy x2’s price is yet to be revealed, it’s difficult to determine how much of a competitor to the Surface it will actually be. However, the inclusion of the Snapdragon 835 and – if the claims are borne out – the 20-hour battery life mean it could be a very tempting proposition.

We're sure that the mobile productivity experience within Office 365 will be great, but how it will run when you have to batch process 30 files in Photoshop, we just don't know. We also don't know how much the Envy x2 will cost, all we know is that it will be coming in Spring 2018.

Model: The HP ENVY x2 LTE redefines mobility with all-day battery life up to 20 hours, durable design, and 4G LTE. It is a tablet/laptop hybrid designed leave charger at home. This lightning-fast 4G LTE gives the best PC and tablet experience, no matter where life takes. HP is offering reliable internet access wherever the user goes and for as long as the user wants. Weighing in at just 0.7 kg (1.54 lb), the aluminum frame measures at just shy of 7 mm at its thinnest point when in tablet mode. The keyboard itself weighs 0.51 kg (1.12 lb), so the entire device is still under 1.36 kg (3 lb) with keyboard attached. With the integrated Qualcom Snapdragon x16 LTE modem in the device, it is easy to stay connected on-the-go while enjoying fast 4G LTE connections, speeds, and downloads. This ultra-power-efficient platform ensures lightning-fast LTE connectivity speeds and optimal battery life for thin, sleek devices while delivering the Windows applications and features people uses. Qualcomm and Microsoft together hope that this family of thin, light, Windows 10 devices will reverse those fortunes. Inside, users will find Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor, a dramatic departure from the Intel Core chips normally found inside 2-in-1s. Opting for mobile hardware meana sacrificing some performance, as even Qualcomm’s own metrics show. The operating system the convertible tablet ships with is Windows 10 S, which is more streamlined than other versions of the operating system. That means, however, that it only supports Windows Store applications. That said, the HP Envy x2 did not feel slow at first blush.

Other specifications include a 12.3-inch diagonal 1,920 x 1,200 display, 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM, and up to 256 GB of SSD storage. There is no need to be gentle with this device. Powerful, durable, and scratch-resistant by having Corning Gorilla Glass, the touch display is nearly indestructible, tackling an on-the-go-lifestyle with ease. As a “detachable PC,” users can break off the keyboard to put the device into tablet mode, as well as sit in laptop mode at 110 to 150 degrees for different typing configurations. The keyboard is backlit to aid typing in darkened environments and has a short, 1.3 mm travel distance to facilitate faster input. Installed with Windows 10 S, it has one of the most secure Windows ever built which features fast boot times, increased responsiveness, and added protection against phishing and malicious software, applications run more smoothly. Thanks to a 13 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front camera, videos, web chats and selfies reach new levels of clarity. There appears to be only one place to charge or plug anything in, which is a single USB-C port. A headphone jack and microSD reader are also included, but like the 12-inch MacBook, that appears to be it for ports.

Series:

The HP Envy x2, the PC giant’s beautifully built Windows 8 hybrid laptop is leading the 2013's trend to detachable screens, which can also be used as tablets on the go. This laptop uses Windows 8 32-bit to give user the full windows experience rather than the hobbled Windows RT that was found in other tablet.

Key advantages of HP's Envy x2 are its ability to run any x86 PC program without problem, the very attractive design and light weight of only 700g. Thanks to the IPS screen and very good battery life, the HP Envy x2 is perfect for daily use such as web browsing, email, or light apps. Thanks to a fast SSD and Intel’s new Clover Trail architecture, even HD video playback and non 3D-gaming apps run without lag.

The Atom chip’s meager performance is the deal-breaker for many people who are looking for a primary mobile device, as the HP envy x2 can’t run demanding apps. At a premium price tag of almost 900 Euro, there are many alternative options out there from mid-range laptop to tablet with Intel’s low voltage core-i5 processor, which can get the job done. However, if you are dead-set on a detachable screen type laptop and money is not a big concern, this might be the right choice for you.

Qualcomm Adreno 540: Integrated graphics card in the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC. Slighly optimized architecture compared to the Adreno 530 but with higher clock speed due to the new 10 nm process. In the beginning of 2017 one of the fastest graphics cards for Android based smartphones.

Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.

SD 835: High-End SoC for smartphones that was introduced in early 2017 and manufactured in 10 nm LPE FinFET at Samsung. Integrates 4x Kryo 280 at 2.45 GHz (max) for performance and 4x Kryo 280 at 1.9 GHz (max) for efficiency. Furthermore offers an X16 LTE modem, ac-WiFi and a dual-channel 32-Bit 1866 MHz LPDDR4x memory controller. » Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

12.30":

This range of display format is largely the upper limit for tablets and the lower limit for subnotebooks.

The advantage of subnotebooks is that the entire laptop can be small in size and therefore easily portable. The tiny display has the added advantage of requiring little power, which further improves battery life and thus mobility. The disadvantage is that reading texts is exhausting for the eyes. High resolutions, which one is used to from a standard laptop, are almost not usable.

The same applies to tablets in this size range.

HP: Founded in 1939, the US company is a major server and printer manufacturer and one of the leading IT companies in the world. Until 2015, the company was called Hewlett-Packard Company. After a split, the computer division was renamed HP Inc.

In 2023, HP had an approximate market share of 22% of global PC sales, making it number 2 after Lenovo.

71.73%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
