HP's first high-end Chromebook is currently up for pre-order and will ship on June 7. The new Chromebook x2 is the first true 2-in-1 Chromebook to hit the market, allowing it to be used in both notebook mode as well as a standalone tablet. It takes advantage of Google's recent advances with its Chrome OS operating system enabling better support for touch input, multitasking and the ability to run Android apps natively.
The HP Chromebook x2 is fitted with a dual-core 7th-gen Intel Core M3-7Y30 clocked at 1Ghz with Turbo Boost up to 2.6Ghz. The 4.5 W part is integrates an Intel HD 615 GPU and is mated to 4GB of LPDDR3 RAM. Onboard storage is limited to 32GB of eMMC flash that is supplemented with 100GB of Google Drive cloud-based storage. Its 12.3-inch multi-touch high-resolution display is 2400 x 1600 pixels while it also picks up Bang and Olufsen audio.
Best Buy currently has the HP Chromebook x2 listed at US$600. It is available in both Matte White and Oxford Blue finishes.
