Reviews for the HP Chromebook x2 12-f015nr

HP Chromebook X2 review
Source: Android Guys English Archive.org version
The HP Chromebook X2 offers up just about everything you could want in a Chromebook. It has a high-resolution screen, good performance, front-facing speakers, great battery life, a responsive keyboard and touchpad, and an included pen. However, I had higher aspirations hoping for a great Chromebook and an Android tablet all in one.

HP Chromebook x2 review: A better bet and bargain than the Google Pixel Slate
Source: Good Gear Guide English Archive.org version
Beyond the price, the Chromebook x2 simply offers a better all-around experience than the Pixel Slate. That may change in future OS updates, but for now, if you want a 2-in-1 Chromebook, the x2 is the one to buy.

I love the Chromebook x2's bright, colorful display and its lengthy battery life, which combined, should make you take Chrome OS seriously. If only it were as light as its competitors, I'd recommend this laptop without a moment's pause.

HP’s Chromebook x2 raises the bar for the two-in-one category, combining effective design, peppy performance and a fine display at a killer price.

This is one of the more expensive Chromebooks out there (especially if you buy it from John Lewis!). I think it’s more for people used to Chrome OS and want to have a higher specced device. If this is the market you’re shopping in though, the X2 is certainly a device that should be on your radar.

It’s certainly possible that the HP Chromebook x2 has found a sweet spot in the middle of all of those devices, but as of this writing, I don’t think it has. It’s a well-made, decently performing machine hampered by too little onboard storage and software that isn’t quite living up to its potential. I hope the latter problem will be addressed soon, but it’s never a good idea to buy a product based on the hope of future updates.

It could use a $50 or $100 price cut, but HP's pioneering Chromebook x2 detachable joins Google's $999 Pixelbook as the elite of the Chrome OS field.

The important thing when deciding whether to buy a Chromebook x2 is to know what you’re getting. You won’t be running pure Linux with the distro of your choice, but you will get a good deal of the experience with a huge number of Android apps.

The only users I’d direct away from this one are those who primarily use a laptop in their laps. While passable, this is the HP x2’s main weakness. If that isn’t you and you’re thinking about this Chromebook, I’d say buy it. You won’t be disappointed!

90% HP Chromebook X2 review: Great Chromebook, better Android tablet
Source: Android Central English Archive.org version
If you loved using high-end Android tablets like the Pixel C as an on-the-go productivity device, a detachable like this is a natural next step as high-end Android tablets fade away. A full desktop browser will go a long way to making you even more productive than a tablet could anyway, with all the Android apps you've been using.

The x2 also sports elements of HP's premium designs, such as a 235 ppi 3:2-aspect ratio display, metal unibody construction and the company's popular anodized electrodeposition coating in ceramic white.

Intel HD Graphics 615: Integrated graphics card in some Kaby Lake Y-series processors (4.5 Watt TDP) with 24 EUs (GT2) and no dedicated graphics memory. Clocks with Update to 1050 MHz depending on the CPU Model.

Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.

m3-7Y30: Extremely efficient ULV-SoC (System-on-a-Chip) for tablets and fanless notebooks based on the Kaby Lake architecture. Includes two CPU cores clocked at 1.0-2.6 GHz with Hyper Threading support as well as a graphics adapter and is manufactured in a 14 nm process.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

12.30":

This range of display format is largely the upper limit for tablets and the lower limit for subnotebooks.

The advantage of subnotebooks is that the entire laptop can be small in size and therefore easily portable. The tiny display has the added advantage of requiring little power, which further improves battery life and thus mobility. The disadvantage is that reading texts is exhausting for the eyes. High resolutions, which one is used to from a standard laptop, are almost not usable.

The same applies to tablets in this size range.

» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.

HP: Founded in 1939, the US company is a major server and printer manufacturer and one of the leading IT companies in the world. Until 2015, the company was called Hewlett-Packard Company. After a split, the computer division was renamed HP Inc.

In 2023, HP had an approximate market share of 22% of global PC sales, making it number 2 after Lenovo.

80.56%: This rating is slightly above average, there are somewhat more devices with worse ratings. However, clear purchase recommendations look different.
