No reference. The Pixel 2 XL is visually a high-end smartphone from 2017 and has a POLED display in the 2:1 format. Visually, the relation to the LG V30 cannot be denied, but it has taken a different path in terms of the camera. Furthermore, there is ample battery power.

Another annoyance I have with the software is the lack of manual tuning on how apps work with this elongated aspect ratio. The majority of Android apps are designed for 16:9 displays, but the extra height here means you’re going to run into some dodgy-looking black bars. The isn’t really an issue with apps, since most can dynamically shift to fill the screen. However, many of the games I’ve tried don’t fit the screen. Other 18:9 phones have got round this issue by letting you manually stretch apps to fit the whole screen; this isn’t something Google offers, however.

Five Reasons the Google Pixel 2(XL) is King of the smartphones and best on Verizon
Source: G Style Magazine English Archive.org version
The Pixel 2 starts at $649.99 while the Pixel 2XL is $200 more and starts at $849. Both of these include 64GB of storage or you can opt and double the space for more memory. If you think you will burn through it because of photos and video the Pixel phones have always been sweet because you can do unlimited uploads in its original quality to Google Photos. Mix this with Verizon’s Unlimited plan and you have a winner. This will be good until 2020 so you have some time to snap away. Verizon has same pricing but tends to offer BOGOs, and other incentives with trade-ins if you catch them.

The Google Pixel 2 XL is the second iteration (and third or fourth smartphone depending how you look at it) of Google’s internally developed smartphones. While it’s nothing overly special or different, it is a solid Android smartphone with the added luxury of having stock Android and timely security updates straight from Google. It’s also nice to see Google implementing some features from other OEMs into the hardware and the Android operating system as well, but there are still many more useful features they can add.

On the other hand, the Pixel 2 XL is not a cheap phone. And for the amount of cash it requires, you may find that the few compromises it does pack are too much to swallow. It all comes down to what you value above all else: if you really can't live without the headphone jack, if you are very concerned about having the absolute best display there is, if you don't want to play the Bluetooth accessory connection lottery, if you hate putting a case on your phone and can't live with accidental touches due to the curve of the screen... then you'll probably be best served by one of the Pixel 2 XL's many competitors.

Between the two, the Pixel 2 takes the cake as it is a no frills Android smartphone, which offers the basics and does them really well, while it’s at it. There’s no tap to adapt for third-party apps because there’s no nonsensical taller display, you don’t have to pinch to zoom every time you play a video either. The bezels are thin, but the grip and usability is excellent. In short, it just works! And does everything brilliantly, be it the camera, battery, display and the software.

Google Pixel 2 XL: Why It Has My Recommendation [Review]

You know I’ve been fortunate and my review unit hasn’t had the host of issues that some other reviewers have experienced and I know a few other reviewers as well who are just fine with their Pixel 2 XLs. I will say out of the most recent issues reported I have experienced the weird Google Assistant not recording what you say via Bluetooth headphones or car. It is a weird thing that doesn’t work when I activate by squeeze but works sometime fine when I use the trigger word Ok Google. Other than this I’ve been fine.

The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL also benefit from faster performance than the Galaxy S8, stellar front and back cameras and long battery life. Overall, I prefer the sleeker designs and curved edge-to-edge displays on the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, and the iPhone 8 Plus remains the king of camera phones. But if you want a pure Android experience, you'll love the $849 Pixel 2 XL. Keeping all that aside, the Pixel 2 XL is one powerful Android smartphone. It has an excellent camera and powerful processor. The Pixel 2 XL price starts at Rs 73,000 for the 64GB model and 128GB model comes at Rs 82,000. At this price, the biggest competition it faces is from Apple iPhone 8 Plus. Those who are Android devotees might like to go for the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 or the Galaxy S8. There's little to separate the Pixel 2 XL from competition - which isn't a surprise as it's always the case with most flagships. It will come down to why you want to buy a flagship. Google struggled with hardware with its Nexus devices, but it is trying to change that with big strategic investments, in the hopes that it can one day go toe-to-toe with Apple and Samsung. With all the learnings from its first two Pixel generations, perhaps the Pixel 3 might be the perfect Android device everyone hopes for (you know, third time's the charm). But that’s in the future, and today we are dealing with a phone that costs Rs. 73,000 and has seen more issues within a few weeks of its release than most phones see in their entire lifecycles. Granted, many of these issues can be fixed with software patches, and we’re sure Google is working on them around the clock, but the experience needs to be at a certain level right from the beginning.

Google’s foray into the hardware market is still in its infant stage, but it’s becoming a more impressive journey with each passing year. The Pixel 2, or at least the Pixel 2 XL has at the very least a small cloud over it thanks to the screen used but it seems to be hit and miss as to whether it’s an issue at all. Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL Review
Source: Droid Life English Archive.org version
The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL deliver smartphone packages that are arguably the best in all of Android. The cameras here are so good, the designs are refreshingly unique enough in a sea full of competitors’ phones built entirely out of fragile glass, their performance is as good as it gets, and the software experience is a tastefully improved Google version of stock Android that you know will always be two steps ahead of everyone else when it comes to updates. You also get choice in size of phone without giving up anything and access to whatever new Google features are introduced over the coming years.

Google Pixel 2 XL: The First 48 [Review]
Source: G Style Magazine English Archive.org version
Some of the features I’m really enjoying is the front facing speakers, I loved those. I’m not sure why anyone would introduce that and then take it away. Glad to have it again. And the squeeze to launch Google Assistant is interesting. I’ve use it a couple of times but we’ll see how I feel about it after I’ve spent more time with the phone. And finally the camera. I’ve taken a few pictures (will show those in the full review), and so far I’m impressed. I’m not a big picture taker, but the ones I have taken especially with that portrait mode have looked really good!

The Pixel 2's bezels are just way too big and it's screen too small for me to take this phone seriously, even for its relatively low $649.

If you can live without the FullVision display, the Pixel 2 is not only cheaper but more compact than the 2 XL. If you're looking for a smaller phone then this is the one to go for, but if you demand the very best in tech your only option is the Pixel 2 XL.

Google Pixel 2 XL review: Only for the pure of Android
Source: Hardware Zone English Archive.org version
All things considered, the Pixel 2 XL probably isn't the phone for everyone. Pure Android fans will love being the first to get updates, security patches, and new features like Google Lens, but with so many other flagship smartphones out there, and with most Android manufacturers now offering a UI experience that's fairly close to stock Android anyway (yes, even Samsung), you may be better off choosing a phone without so many caveats. If you really have to have a Pixel smartphone, I would actually consider importing the smaller Pixel 2 instead. While it has a more conventional design, it does have a Full HD AMOLED display, which shouldn't have the same issues plaguing the Pixel 2 XL's pOLED display.

Hands-on with the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL
Source: Hardware Zone English Archive.org version
Finally, the Pixel 2 phones run Android 8.0.0 Oreo, with its own Pixel Launcher to set it apart, UI-wise, from other Oreo handsets. The most obvious departure from last year’s Pixels is the removal of the “G” search pill on the new-look homescreen, which now has a full-width Google Search bar (rounded corners!) sandwiched between the dock of icons and navigation keys at the bottom. I’m ambivalent about this change, but for those who outright reject it, there’s always third-party launchers. As before, you can long-press the home button to summon Google Assistant, long-press the circular app icons to bring up shortcut items, swipe right to get to the Google app, and swipe up from the bottom of the screen to reveal the app drawer. And if you’re adamant about one-handed use, you can configure the phones to bring down the notification panel when you swipe down on the fingerprint scanner.

The only question, really, is which size you should buy. The Pixel 2 XL is probably too expensive for many people, and its 6-inch display may actually be too big as well. The Pixel 2, with a very attainable price, offers excellent value for the money — it also has a better display and more manageable size. Unless you feel like you need the extra screen size or battery of the 2 XL, pick the Pixel 2. You'll love it.

There seems to be a duality in the Pixel 2 that goes beyond its two-tone finish. It is both impressive yet, at the same time, almost nondescript. It is familiar while also feeling a tad alien. Pixel 2 and 2 XL review: Google's best phones get even better
Source: Engadget English Archive.org version
Rather than build two identical Pixels this year, Google decided to make its new small smartphone a little more conservative. Make no mistake: the Pixel 2 is still an incredibly fast phone, and a clean build of Android 8.0 Oreo combined with Google's intelligent features make the device incredibly capable. And its camera? Just fantastic. Because of its more traditional design and smaller battery, though, the Pixel 2 doesn't make as strong an impression as the Pixel XL. Still, if you're looking for a first-rate Android phone that won't make your hands cramp, you'd do well to start your search here.

It is not that the fingerprint reader has moved or is positioned differently but instead it is no longer positioned underneath the glass panel. Which if nothing else does mean that users will be less likely to leave fingerprint marks on the glass when trying to use the fingerprint reader. Model: The Google Pixel XL 2 is a fantastic phone with a stunning camera crafted by Google. While the Pixel 2 sticks to a familiar blueprint, the Pixel 2 XL mimics the Samsung Galaxy S8, iPhone X, and LG V30 by slimming down the bezel and extending the display. The Pixel 2 XL has an 18:9 display with rounded corners. But unlike those devices like Galaxy S8, there is still a prominent bezel around its sides. This makes the Pixel 2 XL feel big, and more comparable to the Galaxy Note 8 in terms of size. The bezel serves a purpose in the Pixel 2 XL. Above and below the display sit decent-sounding, front-firing stereo speakers, plus Google has added pressure-sensitive edges that will invoke the Assistant with a squeeze of the sides. The back of the Pixel 2 XL is a mixture of glass and aluminum. The aluminum is covered with a coating that gives a chalkboard-like feel; resistive, gripper and slightly textured. It is an excellent finish that goes some way to add the grip lost by the Pixel 2 XL’s lack of curves. The Google Pixel 2 XL is powered by a 1.9 GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor and it comes with 4 GB of RAM. The phone packs 64 GB of internal storage that cannot be expanded. As far as the cameras are concerned, the Google Pixel 2 XL packs a 12.2-megapixel primary camera on the rear and an 8-megapixel front shooter for selfies.

At 6 inch, the screen on the Pixel 2 XL is the biggest seen on a Google-branded handset since the Nexus 6. Instead of using one of the fantastic Super AMOLED panels from Samsung, Google has opted for a plastic OLED, or P-OLED, from LG. With a quad-HD+ resolution, there’s plenty of detail and movies look great. This screen is not touted as an HDR display, but Google has worked some software trickery to allow it to playback HDR-enabled clips from YouTube, and the extra contrast looks fantastic. One of the biggest reasons to choose a Pixel 2 XL over a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 or LG V30 is the software. Instead of layering Android with bloatware and proprietary apps. Google sticks with a very basic version of Android 8. The user will also get first dibs on the next three big yearly Android updates, something that is unlikely with much of the competition. Like most flagship handsets worth their price tags this year, the Pixel 2 XL is IP67-rated for water-resistance. This means a user can submerge the phone in 1 m of water for about half an hour without any resulting damage. In the Pixel 2 XL, Google has also followed the trend to remove the headphone jack. This might have pushed back many potential buyers but it looks like ‘like-it-or-not’, this is going to catch on. There is a USB-C to 3.5 mm port dongle in the box and there are plenty of ‘Made for Google’ USB-C headphones coming soon. The Pixel XL 2 is an Android perfection but it does come in a hefty price tag.

Hands-on article by Jagadisa Rajarathnam

Qualcomm Adreno 540: Integrated graphics card in the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC. Slighly optimized architecture compared to the Adreno 530 but with higher clock speed due to the new 10 nm process. In the beginning of 2017 one of the fastest graphics cards for Android based smartphones.

Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.

SD 835: High-End SoC for smartphones that was introduced in early 2017 and manufactured in 10 nm LPE FinFET at Samsung. Integrates 4x Kryo 280 at 2.45 GHz (max) for performance and 4x Kryo 280 at 1.9 GHz (max) for efficiency. Furthermore offers an X16 LTE modem, ac-WiFi and a dual-channel 32-Bit 1866 MHz LPDDR4x memory controller. » Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

6.00":

It is a very small display format for smartphones. You should by no means be mis-sighted and you will generally see very little on the screen and only have a small resolution available. In return, the device should be very small and handy.

» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.

Google:

Google was founded in 1995 in the USA and became the world's most important search engine in its core business.  Google offers a variety of hardware products, including smartphones, speakers, cameras and smart displays. Since 2012, Google also sells tablets and smartphones.
