GoPro Hero 9 Black leak points toward 5K/30 FPS, HyperSmooth 3.0 and TimeWarp 3.0 capabilities for upcoming action camera
It has only been a few days since Roland Quandt and WinFuture leaked several details about the GoPro Hero 9 Black, the successor to last year's Hero 8 Black. The leak confirmed that GoPro will be bringing a colour display to the front of this year's model and that the new edition should be compatible with existing accessories. Subsequently, images of retail packaging have also leaked. These images have been posted on r/gopro, but they appear to originate from a Twitter account called @gadgetguy1020.
The images do not show the GoPro Hero 9 Black itself, but they do offer details about multiple elements of the upcoming action camera. Firstly, one image contains a marketing render of the device, which matches the renders that Quandt and WinFuture have released. As for features, we have gleaned the following:
- HyperSmooth 3.0
- TimeWarp 3.0
- 5K/30 FPS video recording
- 4K/60 FPS video recording
- 1080p/240 FPS video recording
- Waterproof up to 10 metres (33 ft)
- SuperPhoto + HDR
- RAW
- 1080p live streaming
- Voice Control
The images do not list any camera hardware specifications, nor what is new about HyperSmooth 3.0 or TimeWarp 3.0. However, HyperSmooth 2.0 offers up to 8x slo-mo (240 FPS) at 1080p, which its successor will also offer. SuperPhoto + HDR, RAW and 1080p live streaming are all present on the Hero 8 Black too, as is 10 m (33 ft) waterproofing.
We should point out that we have been unable to verify these images. However, they do not appear to have been faked, at least from what we can tell anyway.
