A $1000 USD gaming laptop can get you pretty far these days, but what about $500 or even $450 USD? This latest Holiday deal is pushing the limits on how cheap gaming laptops can be and still be able to provide a decent gaming experience for users.
Best Buy is currently discounting the HP Pavilion Gaming 15 down to just $450 down from its original price of $700 to be the fastest gaming laptop available at its new price point. When considering that the $400 range is home to an ocean of slow Celeron or Intel Core i3 laptops, the performance-per-dollar for this Pavilion Gaming 15 is immense especially since the Ryzen 5 4600H is on par with the much pricier Core i7-10750H. In general, buyers can expect the laptop to run about as well as a typical gaming PC powered by the GeForce GTX 1060 GPU.
Of course, the HP configuration has some important drawbacks to keep in mind. The 256 GB SSD and 8 GB of RAM, for example, are the bare minimum for any modern PC. Meanwhile, the 1080p display doesn't offer high refresh rates or fast response times meaning users can expect noticeable ghosting if playing fast-paced games. Fortunately, storage and RAM can be upgraded while users can always connect an external monitor for a better gaming experience.
Our full review on the Pavilion Gaming 15 can be found here. Users willing to spend a bit more may want to consider the newer generation 2020 Pavilion Gaming 16 instead. Even so, it's still hard to argue against a gaming laptop retailing for just $450.
