A few days ago, WB Games shut down one of the most iconic studios that redefined how we play games: Monolith Productions. One of their first creations, F.E.A.R, redefined the FPS genre thanks to its revolutionary AI and its unique implementation of bullet time. You can now get the game and all of its DLC on GOG for a throwaway price. Additionally, it will be added to GOG's game preservation program shortly due to the Monolith's closure.
F.E.A.R Platinum has dropped to just $0.99 on GOG. As is the case with all GOG games, you get to download it via an offline installer and play it DRM-free. It includes the base game and two pieces of DLC: Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate. They continue the main game's story and kind of lead up to the events of its sequel, F.E.A.R 2 Project Origin, which also happens to be on sale on the same platform for just $2.99.
Lastly, the third and final installation in the series, F.E.A.R 3, has also dropped to $3.99. While Monolith didn't develop this, it has some unique mechanics not found in the first two games, such as the ability to replay the campaign with two different protagonists. All three games are relatively old and should run well on just about any PC built in the past ten years, which also means you can easily play them on your Steam Deck/ROG Ally/MSI Claw. If you want something more modern, Trepang2 might pique your interest.
