Garmin launches rugged all-rounder: Zumo XT3 detects lean angle and offers group features

Garmin is likely best known for its smartwatches, but it also sells navigation systems and originally comes from that segment. With the Zumo XT3, the company has added a new navigation system to its lineup. It can likely also be used in cars, but it is designed specifically for motorcycles and sports IPX7 and MIL-STD-810 certifications. The device can also withstand vibrations that are difficult to avoid on a motorcycle. Additional features for riders are included.
For example, the gadget can show the lean angle which illustrates how far riders lean the bike into a turn. Group ride features are also available and let users view the position of other riders on the navigation device. However, that requires an indirect cellular connection or compatible accessories for tracking without a cellular connection. The Zumo XT3 is also aimed at racers when the so-called Garmin Performance Package is enabled. In that case, it can display times for various distances, acceleration to 100 kph and lap times.
Route planning directly on the device or via the accompanying app is supported. New routes can also be explored in the app, which should make it relatively easy to find scenic routes. The Garmin Zumo XT3 is available for $499 with a smaller 4.7-inch display, while the 6-inch version retails for $599. Both are equipped with TFT touchscreens that should be easy to read in bright daylight. These two new Garmin navigation devices can be ordered starting February 20.
