Garmin launches new 46 mm smartwatch with titanium grade 5 housing and high-end features
Garmin is now selling a second-generation version of the MARQ Athlete in its Performance Edition guise. For some reason, the company has elected against selling the smartwatch directly in some markets. Specifically, while the MARQ Athlete Gen 2 Performance Edition can be purchased from Garmin in the UK and the US, it must be bought from third-party retailers in other markets like Germany.
For context, roughly two months have passed since Garmin released the MARQ Carbon Collection, a series that cost between $2,950 and $3,200 for the Athlete and Commander editions, respectively. By contrast, the the MARQ Athlete Gen 2 Performance Edition retails for $2,300 or €2,300 in the Eurozone and £1,999.99 in the UK. At any rate, the MARQ Athlete Gen 2 Performance Edition is only available in a 46 mm case size, within which sits a 1.2-inch AMOLED display.
According to Garmin, the display outputs at 390 x 390 pixels and is protected by domed sapphire crystal. Meanwhile, the company has opted for a titanium grade 5 alloy for the smartwatch's bezel and case, unlike many modern smartwatches. Incidentally, Garmin guarantees up to 10 ATM water resistance for pressures equivalent to a depth of 100 metres.
Moreover, the company rates the MARQ Athlete Gen 2 Performance Edition for up to sixteen days of battery life or six days with always-on display functionality activated. As usual, Garmin pre-installs its suite of first-party apps and the Connect IQ store, where you can download third-party apps. Likewise, the MARQ Athlete Gen 2 Performance Edition integrates GNSS services, a thermometer and blood oxygen monitoring. Please see Garmin's website for more details.
