The Fenix 8 series has now received its third v24.xx-based update.
Garmin is now offering a new update to many of its recent high-end smartwatches. Available to download globally, the new update promises to improve the Fenix 8, Fenix 8 Pro and other associated smartwatches in multiple areas.

Earlier this year, Garmin replaced the Fenix 8 series with the Fenix 9 and Fenix 9 Pro. Subsequently, the company introduced the Marq Gen 3 and the Enduro 4 too (curr. $899 on Amazon). Nonetheless, it continues to offer new software updates to the Fenix 8 series on a regular basis.

Last week, Garmin released Beta Version 24.14 for the Fenix 8 and Fenix 8 Pro. As we discussed at the time, Beta Version 24.14 contained ten changes from the feature-packed Beta Version 24.13. By contrast, Beta Version 24.15 is said to improve upon its predecessor in seven overarching areas. At this stage, it is still unclear when Garmin will transition v24.xx development to its stable software channel.

Setting that aside, Beta Version 24.15 fixes an issue that prevented Heart Rate Variability from being tracked overnight when using an Index Sleep Monitor. Additionally, Garmin claims to have resolved a separate bug that resulted in maps failing to install on older firmware. Beta Version 24.15 is being offered as an over-the-air (OTA) update. The full changelog between v24.14 and v24.15 is as follows:

  • Fixes an issue where Garmin Express reports a successful map install but no map is installed on device.
  • Fixes an issue where the watch would crash when starting a swim activity.
  • Fixes emoji icons overlapping with predictive text.
  • Fixes Heart Rate Variability overnight average missing when using Index Sleep Monitor.
  • Fixes historical barometer graph data disappearing after pool swim activity.
  • Fixes self-evaluation not prompting in Strength and HIIT workouts when set to "Workouts Only".
  • Fixes watch missing some ArcheryX translations.
