Garmin delivers more than a dozen changes to high-end smartwatches with new update

Garmin has returned to its Fenix 8 series with a new software update. To recap, the company issued Beta Version 24.12 just over a week ago with dozens of changes and improvements compared to recent v23.xx stable firmware. Incidentally, the update was the first v24.xx-based update that has been offered publicly.

Now, Garmin has furnished Beta Program participants with another dozen or so changes. This time, the company has transitioned beta development to Beta Version 24.13, which it is providing as an over-the-air (OTA) download rather than on a ‘Check for Updates’ basis. For reference, Beta Version 24.13 is available on the Fenix 8 Pro too (curr. $1,099 on Amazon), as well as non-Pro smartwatches like the Enduro 3, Fenix E and the Tactix 8.

In a forum post, Garmin claims that Beta Version 24.13 introduces a fresh 18 changes over the 45 changes that its predecessor provided. As the changelog below shows, all of these are bug fixes of one kind or another, rather than new features. Please see the changelog below and Garmin's forum post for more details. 

• Fixes "Display Settings" shortcut pushing the wrong menu.
• Fixes "Iron Portal" watch face missing some data fields.
• Fixes an issue where the map theme won't change when desired.
• Fixes average grade adjusted pace field not populating.
• Fixes coordinate information appearing on map pages.
• Fixes decimal picker showing when editing pack weight when user isn't able to update decimals.
• Fixes device crashing when selecting the map page.
• Fixes devices becoming unresponsive after extended USB connections.
• Fixes distorted alarm and notification audio playback.
• Fixes entry and exit points showing inaccurately for individual dives and apnea dives.
• Fixes heart rate broadcasting stopping after Bluetooth is disabled.
• Fixes heart rate graphs sometimes not populating correctly in activity summaries.
• Fixes move alert not being cleared from the notification center.
• Fixes NTN "try again" screen buttons not working.
• Fixes occasional crashes during track run activities.
• Fixes screen going black when saving a point of interest.
• Fixes streak alerts replacing goal alerts during activities.
• Fixes the magnifier on the address search not working.
