The Acer Predator GP30 SSD stands out from alternatives like the Samsung T9 (from $129 on Amazon) primarily due to its unusual design, as Acer uses a partially transparent front that allows a look at the memory chips on the mainboard. The chips are even illuminated by RGB lighting when the SSD is connected to a computer.
Despite its striking design, the Predator GP30 measures 2.83 x 2.40 x 0.47 inches and is one of the more compact external SSDs on the market. Its weight of 2.33 oz is also remarkably low. Furthermore, the SSD supports USB-C 3.2 Gen 2x2, which should allow for speeds of 2,000 MB/s for both reading and writing. The SSD can also be used with USB-C ports that support older USB standards, albeit at a reduced transfer speeds.
Thanks to its high speed, the Predator GP30 is suitable for storing games, which should be playable without any noticeable compromises in terms of loading times. Acer further advertises broad compatibility with Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, HarmonyOS and Sony’s PlayStation. However, the PS5 only allows users to launch PS4 games directly from an external SSD. Acer also provides a five-year manufacturer warranty on the SSD.
