GTA 6: Two suspicious details could reveal a major story twist

Valentina may already be familiar to GTA fans. The businesswoman made a brief appearance in GTA Online and is set to return in Grand Theft Auto VI (available for pre-order on Amazon). As shown in the Extended Look, she arranges a job for Jason and Lucia as bodyguards for businessman Andrés de León. But what if she's actually leading them straight into a trap? That's the theory put forward by an eagle-eyed fan who spotted two potentially revealing details in the footage released so far.
The first clue comes from the mission involving Andrés de León. During a meeting at the airport (at 19:07 in the Extended Look), Valentina casually orders three glasses of champagne, even though Jason and Lucia are there to work. Lucia doesn't seem particularly thrilled by the idea and points out that they're on the job. Reddit user u/itcurvetotheright suspects Valentina may be deliberately encouraging the pair to drink in an attempt to lower their guard.
The second detail strikes the Redditor as even more suspicious. In a later scene outside the Megamundo building (at 20:45 in the Extended Look), Valentina is looking at her phone as the group arrives. At roughly the same moment, one of the men standing near a van also appears to be checking his phone. Since these men seem to be involved in Andrés' subsequent kidnapping, the fan wonders whether Valentina could be working with them – or may even have helped set up the abduction.

Could Valentina really be behind the kidnapping?
The theory has generated plenty of interest in the comments. Some fans can certainly imagine Valentina betraying Jason and Lucia later in the story. The thread's top-rated comment, from Reddit user u/blindman-42, sums up the possibility in just one word: "Would." Others aren't convinced the clues hold much weight. A single glass of champagne is unlikely to impair Jason and Lucia to any meaningful degree, especially since several hours appear to pass between the airport meeting and the later mission.
The phone activity isn't necessarily suspicious, either. Valentina is a well-connected businesswoman who presumably has plenty of deals to manage. She was also frequently seen on her phone in GTA Online, so Rockstar may simply be bringing back a familiar character trait. Whether Valentina really is playing both sides or fans are reading too much into a couple of innocent details remains to be seen. And she isn't the first character to attract suspicion. As previously reported, similar theories have emerged about bank robber Raul Bautista – and even Jason himself. Readers are welcome to share their own theories in the comments below.
