GTA 6 realism: Rockstar lead actually addressed the bottle magically appearing

It’s not surprising that GTA 6 has been the talk of the town for months, especially now with the release just over a month away. Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier recently visited Rockstar North in Edinburgh, where he sat down with management to talk about the development process. The long interview shares a lot of tidbits about the making of GTA 6, and one of them has to do with a highly discussed part of the Netflix extended look.
For context, the extended footage was our first look at actual GTA 6 gameplay. It was filled with incredible detail and realism, but the decisions behind it were quite challenging, especially since there were three leaders working on the project. One scene that drew criticism was when Jason reaches into the fridge to grab a drink, and the drink magically appears in his hands.
Talking about how realistic GTA 6 is, Nelson says the leaders debated about the level of realism that would actually make the game less enjoyable. Giving the example of going to a convenience store to buy beer, typically you just walk to the counter and buy whatever you need from a catalogue. However, having to go to the store’s refrigerator, grabbing the beer, bringing it to the counter, and manually pay every time might not be as enjoyable.
Similarly, if you wanted to make a sandwich that improves some stats, would the player want to go to the store first and get ingredients, or simply just make the sandwich?
Fans disagree
Apparently, this explanation doesn’t sit right with some of the fans. Commenting on the X post about the same, fans have shared how they feel the animation could have been done better. Some have also brought up Red Dead Redemption 2 that had animations for opening individual drawers and searching pockets for loot. They suggest that it's Rockstar’s own fault since they’ve obsessed with realism in past games. Some others have also stated that it’s not as big of a deal as people are making it out to be.
What do you think? Should Rockstar change the animation to feel more seamless, or is the whole issue a nothinburger.
