The Fujifilm X-T6 is apparently getting a number of welcome improvements to its design and controls, as leaked images already reveal. The high-end mirrorless camera provides direct access to the most important settings through numerous dials.

Rumors revealed the first details about the features of the successor to the Fujifilm X-T5 ($1,619 on Amazon) months ago. According to these rumors, the Fujifilm X-T6 is expected to stand out primarily with significantly faster AI autofocus, a 16 percent larger battery and the option to record 8K video, while Fujifilm is expected to continue using a 40-megapixel X-Trans sensor in APS-C format.

FujiRumors has now published technical drawings that are said to offer a first look at the design of the high-end mirrorless camera. These suggest that its appearance matches the design of the Fujifilm X-T5 in many respects, from the ergonomically shaped grip and the "hump" for the electronic viewfinder to the fold-out display. However, a closer look reveals at least three interesting changes.

First, the two dials used to select film simulations and switch between photo and video modes protrude significantly farther from the body, allowing them to be operated comfortably with the thumb from the rear. Second, the large exposure compensation dial is also recessed deeper into the body and will presumably be somewhat easier to operate due to a cutout on the back of the top plate.

And third, a new D-pad replaces the four separate buttons with a four-way button. Overall, the design changes are moderate, but Fujifilm is at least focusing on making operation more comfortable. After the launch was reportedly postponed, it is not yet known when the Fujifilm X-T6 will hit the market.
