Fujifilm X-M5 leaks as affordable, compact X100VI alternative coming in late 2024
Last week, we reported on a Fujifilm rumour about the return of a previous camera line as a new vlogging camera with IBIS and similar hardware and capabilities as the X-S20 (curr. $1,399.99 at Best Buy), and we speculated that an X-A8 would be coming to replace the ageing X-A7. As it turns out, the camera Fujifilm is actually planning to release is the X-M5 — a sort of more premium brother to the X-A line-up — according to a supposed leak from “trustworthy sources” that spoke to Fuji Rumors.
Fuji Rumors didn't report on any additional leaked or rumoured specifications for the Fujifilm X-M5, but if the previous X-M1 is anything to go on, it will be something of a compact, retro-styled X-S20. As a reminder, the spec sheet for Fujifilm's then-unnamed camera included some pretty impressive photography and videography chops.
Supposedly, the X-M5 will feature the same hardware setup as the X-S20, which is to say it will feature a 26.1 MP X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor and an X Processor 5. That combination should enable up to 20 fps in burst mode and 6.2K open-gate video, this time allegedly going beyond the 30 fps of the X-S20 and topping out at 60 fps.
Supposedly, the Fujifilm X-M5 will also feature an articulating screen and 7-stop, 5-axis in-body image stabilisation, putting it about on par with the nigh-unobtainable $1,599.99 Fujifilm X100VI in all but sensor resolution. That should make the X-M5 a rather formidable pocketable camera with oodles of both photo and video performance and retro design flare.
