Reports of deleted or reset save files in Forza Horizon 6 are becoming increasingly frequent. While the cause remains unclear, players have already put together a list of precautionary measures.

Reports of lost save data are piling up on Reddit and in the official Forza forums. Some players say they have lost more than 100 hours of progress, with both PC and Xbox users apparently affected. So far, however, no clear pattern has emerged. Some affected players report that their profile was suddenly reset to its default state after launching the game. Others say their save data disappeared after a crash or failed cloud synchronization.

The developers have not yet provided an official explanation. In the community, however, several possible triggers are being discussed. One prime suspect is Xbox Quick Resume, a feature that lets players suspend a game and resume it from the same point after restarting the console. Some players suspect that resuming a previously paused session could cause issues with cloud save synchronization. On PC, faulty cloud synchronization via the Xbox app is also being discussed as a possible cause. There are also reports that certain vehicles may be linked to the problem.

What players should do now

As PC Gamer reports, the community has already compiled a list of precautionary measures that may help reduce the risk of losing save data in Forza Horizon 6 (covered here in Notebookcheck’s benchmark test). The recommended measures include:

  • Avoid or disable Quick Resume on Xbox for the time being
  • Close the game properly after each session
  • Make regular backups of save files on PC
  • Pay particular attention to possible cloud synchronization errors after crashes
  • Contact the official Forza support immediately in the event of data loss
  • Avoid certain vehicles for the time being, especially when painting, tuning or sharing designs (1993 Schuppan 962CR, 2003 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning, 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air, 1988 Lamborghini Countach LP5000 QV, 2020 Wuling Sunshine S Forza Edition, 1994 Ferrari F355 Berlinetta, 2019 Porsche #70 Motorsport 945, 2017 Ford M-Sport Fiesta RS)

The issue is currently attracting increasing attention and has already been picked up by Dexerto on X, among others. It should only be a matter of time before Playground Games identifies the cause and releases a corresponding patch. Until then, FH6 players (Xbox version currently around $70 on Amazon) are well advised to follow the precautionary measures listed above.
