Ford is updating its F-150 Lightning electric pickup line-up with the release of the 2024 F-150 Lightning Flash, which is set to introduce Ford's extended range battery pack at its lowest price yet. The Flash trim uses the XLT as a base model, but it gets upgraded Extended Range battery pack and 15/5-inch infotainment screen as standard (compared to the current-gen XLT's 12-inch unit).
The F-150 Lightning Flash is a direct outcome of engaging with and learning from our customers. This truck combines many of the technology-forward features our customers love in our EV lineup, at a more accessible price.” - - Marin Gjaja, Chief Operating Officer, Ford Model e
The F-150 Lightning Flash will also feature an eight-speaker B&O sound system, a Power Tailgate, and the Tow Technology Package. It appears to be a rather well-balanced trim to add to the F-150 line-up.
One of the biggest changes to come from the update to the F-150 Lightning Flash and the rest of the Ford F-150 Lightning line-up for 2024 is the inclusion of a heat pump. In theory, this means the F-150 Lightning's range should be less affected by cold weather, thanks to battery pre-conditioning.
In a response to InsideEVs, Ford calls out its heat pump the Vapor Injection Heat Pump (VIHP), and claims that it reduces power consumption and improves performance in a wide variety of ambient conditions. It has always been a common criticism of the F-150 Lightning that it lacked a heat pump to deal with cold weather, and the introduction of the feature without impacting the price of the vehicle is nothing but good news for potential buyers.
Ford will open pre-orders for the F-150 Lightning Flash and the rest of the 2024 Lightning family in early 2024.
