Fairphone 4: A new modular smartphone is on the way with 5G support in tow
Fairphone is set to release a new device in its unique lineup of phones that offer a modular design with replaceable parts. The device, which should be the Fairphone 4, has now made its first appearance in the public domain and can be expected to launch sometime in the near future.
The Fairphone 4 has been spotted on the WiFi Alliance certification website. The phone is listed with a 5G modem, which would make it Fairphone's first 5G-capable device. The SoC on the Fairphone 4 remains unknown but WLAN firmware numbers reportedly hint heavily at a Qualcomm chipset. Since it's a 5G chipset, it should be a significant upgrade on the Snapdragon 632 on the Fairphone 3 Plus.
The Fairphone 3 Plus carried a €469 price tag, and the Fairphone 4 will likely be priced similarly. Fairphone will have to deliver a device with solid hardware at the very least if it's to have any success with the next entry in the series. The Fairphone 4 will ship with Android 11, thankfully, and should continue the company's solid performance with software support.
