Eve-Tech has come in for a lot of criticism over the Eve V, its 2-in-1 Microsoft Surface challenger, since its release in December 2017. As we have previously reported, there have been persistent concerns about the company's ability to fulfil orders, with /r/evev still reading like a car crash. As we pointed out in February though, it seems that Eve-Tech has rebranded as Eve Distribution. Hence, the company may have given up on fulfilling old orders and has focussed its attention on new products. This is speculative on our part, though.
If you are willing to give Eve-Tech or Eve Distribution a second chance, then the concepts for its next 2-in-1 may interest you. The company is currently taking inputs from its community and has narrowed the choice to three concepts:
- POWERHOUSE: A beautiful power machine.
- WORK HORSE: The best tool to get the work done.
- BETTER-UP: Strong and accessible unit.
It is worth keeping in mind that only one of these concepts will make it into development, while Eve has stressed that the keyboard for the final device will be developed further down the line. Additionally, the three concepts have the same specifications and port selection. The second-generation Eve will include the following:
Eve V (2020) | |
---|---|
OS | Windows 10/Windows 10 Pro |
Processor | 15 W Tiger Lake UP4 |
Display | 12.3-inch, 3:2 aspect ratio |
Ports | 2x USB Type-A (10 Gbps)2x USB Type-C (40 Gbps)3.5 mm jackSD card readerPower button & fingerprint readerVolume buttons |
Make sure to check out the full blog post for the differences between the three concepts, along with detailed renders of each. In our opinion, the repairability of the BETTER-UP makes it the best of three concepts, although it is the least popular design in the Eve Community.
