Epilogue is an electronics company based in Romania that manufactures Game Boy Operators, which are basically cartridge slots for PCs that lets people play classic Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, and Game Boy Color games on their machines. The company's latest tweet shows them working on a way to turn the classic Nintendo Game Boy Camera into a webcam.
The Game Boy Camera, released by Nintendo in 1998, was an accessory for the original Game Boy that allowed users to take pictures and print them out using a small printer that also connected to the Game Boy. It has a resolution of 16 kilopixels, which is roughly 617 times lower than a modern webcam, say the Logitech MX Brio 4K (currently on sale for $145 on Amazon).
The new update will come to the Playback emulator app that powers the GB Operator. Epilogue says that they are still working on fine-tuning some things and allowing for configuration options. The company posted a screenshot on X (formerly Twitter) showing a video call with a user looking blocky and pixelated. In the post itself, Epilogue wrote that the finished product will be available for GB Operators soon. While the video quality won't be winning any awards, it's just a fun way to add a filter-less, retro touch to your video calls or your stream - complete with that classic Nintendo aesthetic.
