Epic Games is introducing the Epic Games Store on both iOS and Android within the European Union. The store will offer developers more favorable terms compared to traditional app stores, including a lower 12% store fee. Fortnite will also return to the iOS App Store in the EU. To further challenge app store monopolies, Epic plans to distribute its games on other third-party mobile stores.

Apple rejected a second notarization submission from Epic Games on July 5, which stopped Epic from bringing its Games Store to iOS in Europe. Now, Epic Games has announced a key shift in its strategy, bypassing traditional app stores and offering developers more favorable terms.

Fortnite will soon be reintroduced to the iOS App Store in the European Union, thanks to new regulations that promote competition. Additionally, Epic will launch its own Epic Games Store on both Android and iOS within the EU, offering developers a 12% store fee for payments processed through the store and 0% for third-party payments.

Epic's ambitions clearly extend beyond its own store. The company plans to distribute its games, including Fortnite, on other mobile stores that offer fair terms to developers. Conversely, Epic will withdraw its games from stores that it deems anti-competitive, such as Samsung's Galaxy Store due to its recent decision to block sideloading. Instead, Epic stated that their mobile games will come to AltStore on iOS in the EU (AltStore is an alternative app store for the iOS and iPadOS mobile operating systems that was founded in 2019).

Epic, Apple and the European Union have been involved in a legal conundrum for a while now. By offering developers more favorable terms and expanding distribution channels, Epic is trying to adapt to the mobile gaming ecosystem in the EU, while changing it steadily at the same time. Let's see how that fares for the company in the future.
