Tesla's Elon Musk flaunts the production-ready Cybertruck in an online appearance ahead of the electric pickup truck's official announcement. Meanwhile, Tesla takes the wraps off the Cybertruck Delivery Event Invite referral program that seems awfully difficult to take advantage of.

The Tesla Cybertruck has been in development for a little under four years by now, but it appears as though the announcement date is finally approaching, thanks to two new developments in the Tesla camp. Firstly, Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, has once again teased the final production candidate of the Cybertruck in a recent post on social media platorm X (fka Twitter) — undoubtedly in an attempt to generate excitement around the upcoming announcement of the vehicle.

Musk's teaser doesn't reveal much about the final production Cybertruck, but the uneven seam on the front panel of the frunk indicates that, in spite of Tesla's efforts, it's still having a hard time sorting out its ubiquitous panel gap problems.

Secondly, an X (fka Twitter) users, @teslaflexx and @SawyerMerritt, have posted about an update to the Tesla referral program that allows customers with enough credits to earn an invitation for two people to the Cybertruck Delivery Event.

Tesla's referral program has drummed up more than its fair share of criticisms over the years for failing to deliver on promised rewards and ultimately just being a disappointing experience for many. In this particular case, it seems that only very active participants in the Tesla community will be able to get a spot through the referral program.

According to the posted screenshots of the Tesla app, the Cybertruck Delivery Day Invite will cost 30,000 credits. To earn that many credits, Tesla users will have to successfully refer more than eight Model S or Model X cars (worth 3,500 credits per referral) or 15 Model 3 or Model Y units (worth 2,000 credits per referral). Solar Roofs and Solar Panels, on the other hand, are worth 9,000 credits each.

Of course, buyers and repeat customers also receive credits for purchases, but the point is that anyone wanting to take advantage of the invitation will need to already be Tesla fans.

A closer look at the final production candidate reveals uneven panel gaps in some seams as well as misaligned wheel covers, although the last one seems easy enough to solve unless the wheel covers go out of alignment with the tyres on their own. (Image source: Elon Musk on X - edited)
