Don't want an IdeaPad or ThinkPad? Lenovo's new hybrid ThinkBook 13s and 14s series should fit the bill

The new ThinkBook series will be a business-consumer offering designed for small businesses not yet ready to invest in pricier ThinkPad laptops. Its chassis design is arguably sleeker and more affordable than many ThinkPads while offering the same ThinkShield security protection plans.

Combine the business-centric Lenovo ThinkPad T480s with the consumer-centric Lenovo Yoga S730 and you have the new ThinkBook laptop. The OEM will be introducing a brand new family that offers the best of both worlds designed for small businesses and startups in contrast to the large enterprises that ThinkPad laptops tend to cater to.

According to Lenovo, many smaller businesses or entrepreneurs are turned off by the cost of a traditional ThinkPad laptop or even the classic TrackPoint that many traditional ThinkPad users live by. As a result, these businesses may turn towards consumer laptops like the Yoga or Dell XPS instead for all their business needs. Lenovo sees this as a potential market opportunity and thus the ThinkBook family was born. Visually, the ThinkBook sports a similar keyboard layout as the Yoga S730 and matte aluminum texture as the Legion Y740 but with more warranty and support options that small businesses can appreciate.

Core specifications and ports can be found on the official datasheets below. There will not be any AMD SKUs planned unlike on the recently announced ThinkPad T495. Lenovo says all configurations of the ThinkBook will include SSDs by default with no primary HDD options which is definitely an undertaking we can respect.

The ThinkBook 13s and ThinkBook 14s are launching before the end of this month for a starting price of $730 and $750, respectively. We can expect more options and sizes in the future depending on how well these initial models will resonate with the target audience.
