Diver-X has opened preorders for its ContactGlove2 VR glove with haptic feedback and hand tracking. The gloves allow VR users to interact with their virtual worlds by naturally grabbing, manipulating, and using virtual objects. The wireless, battery-powered gloves allow users to dance and move about unimpeded. The original ContactGlove was a 2023 CES Innovation Award Honoree.

Although camera-based hand tracking such as the Ultraleap Hyperion (available here on Amazon) exists, these visual tracking methods do not work when the hands are occluded and provide no physical feedback when virtual hands touch or strike virtual objects. The ContactGlove2 has a built-in Haptic Reactor that provides sensory feedback. The new version also has improved finger tracking and hand tracking with a more comfortable fit.

The gloves communicate with the computer using a 2.4 Ghz dongle. Compatible apps include most SteamVR apps, VRChat, and Resonite. The built-in 1,400 mAh battery powers the gloves for 8.5 hours and recharges in 3 hours using a USB-C power supply. An optional Magnetra2 physical controller is magnetically attached to the ContactGlove2 to provide joystick and button inputs.

The ContactGlove2 can be pre-ordered for a MSRP of $512 or with the Magnetra2 controller for a discounted package price of $527. Diver-X expects to ship the gloves in mid-December 2024. Readers purchasing the gloves must own a SteamVR-compatible headset, such as the HTC Vive Focus Vision (available here on Amazon). Users must also have a HTC VIVE SteamVR Base Station 2.0 (available here on Amazon) and two compatible trackers, such as the HTC Vive Tracker (3.0) (available here on Amazon).
