Earlier this week, Google started distributing a new Google Play system update for Pixel smartphones, discussed separately. Now, it seems that the company is preparing to roll out a Feature Drop with a few changes for the likes of the Pixel 6a, Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. While Google has not released the March 2023 Feature Drop yet, u/Austin31415 claims to have been given the changelog, which has been picked up by the likes of 9to5Google.
According to the pair, the March 2023 Feature Drop will bundle several new features, including revised Magic Eraser functionality that will open the software to all Pixel smartphones. As always, Pixel smartphones will be able to access Magic Eraser within the Google Photos app, unlike Samsung and its Expert RAW mode, until the release of the Galaxy S23 series. Additionally, Google claims to have included an updated Night Sight mode for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, which should bring them to parity with the Pixel 7 series in this regard.
Elsewhere, the March 2023 Feature Drop will add a Health Connect app that aims to minimise privacy issues when sharing data with fitness, health and wellness apps. Previously, Google distributed this update through the Google Play Store rather than pre-installing it on Pixel smartphones. Meanwhile, Google has expanded 'Direct My Call' functionality to the Pixel 4a and Pixel 5a. Typically, Google releases Feature Drop updates on the first Monday of a month. As such, it is unclear when these features will be available or whether there will be other additions that u/Austin31415 has not disclosed.
