Dell Latitude 7030 Rugged Extreme: Withstands drops and extreme weather, offers a dual battery system and a 1,000 nits display
The Latitude 7030 Rugged Extreme tablet should cut just as good a figure in the middle of a snowstorm as it does on the production floor, as the 2.54-centimeter-thick, roughly 1-kilogram case is protected against a number of extreme weather conditions.
The IP65 certification promises protection against dust and water splashes from all directions, while Dell also claims that temperatures from -29 to +62 degrees Celsius and drops from a maximum height of 1.2 meters will not damage the tablet. With a fingerprint sensor, an infrared camera for Windows login via facial recognition and a privacy shutter for the front camera, the tablet offers a number of security features. The device can be operated either via touchscreen, with a passive stylus or with the trackpad of the optional keyboard cover.
The touchscreen is also supposed to work with gloves. The 10.1-inch display in 16:10 format achieves a resolution of 1,920 x 1,200 and an impressive brightness of 1,000 nits, allowing the display to be read in daylight. Dell installs an Intel Core i7-1260U, 32 GB of LPDDR5 5200 RAM and a maximum 2 TB PCIe SSD in the top model.
Buyers have the choice between a permanently installed 36 Wh battery or two 18 Wh batteries that can be easily removed and replaced on the back. Charging is done via USB-C at up to 90 watts. The tablet supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2, and an LTE modem is optionally available. Two USB-C ports are also on board, which only support Thunderbolt 4 in the model with a fixed battery, alongside a microSD card reader and either USB-A or Ethernet.
Price and availability
The Dell Latitude 7030 Rugged Extreme Tablet is expected to be "available globally later this year, with pricing announced closer to shipping," according to a blog entry from Dell's website.
