Details about the Nintendo Switch 2 have appeared in two different reports lately, offering what seem like conflicting release dates. There is also some information provided about the Switch 2 hardware, including just how much of it is purportedly coming from Samsung. On top of that, it has been claimed that the device will come with magnetic Joy-Cons.

After what seemed like a drought of Nintendo Switch 2 rumors and reports, two different articles have now burst forth to deliver much-desired details about the prospective console. One of the reports, which comes from Maekyung media in South Korea, is a borderline PR piece for Samsung that claims the Switch 2 could appear in the second half of 2024 “at the earliest”. It also details how the next-generation Switch will use fifth-generation V-NAND memory from Samsung Electronics, while also sporting a panel from Samsung Display and a chip based on Samsung’s 7LHP process (Nvidia’s Tegra T239 processor).

Arguably more interesting is a separate report from the Spanish-language site Vandal. Here, it is claimed that the Nintendo Switch 2 has already sort of been presented to some companies that are providing accessories for the console. Apparently, representatives of these firms have been allowed to “touch” the Switch 2, but only while it was in an opaque box so that nothing distinctive could be seen or sneakily spy-shotted. It appears the main takeaway from this particular Switch 2 "hands-on" is that the device is smaller than the Steam Deck (available on Amazon) but larger than its predecessor.

As well as talking about this peculiar sizing-up process, the same report also mentions that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be getting magnetic Joy-Con controllers for quicker and easier attaching and detaching, as opposed to the sliding rail system that the current Switch utilizes. Interestingly, this source claims that although Nintendo could have released the Switch successor in 2024, it has been decided that early 2025 would be a better release date window as it would give developers more time to make sure the Switch 2 is launched with a killer list of games already available for purchase.
