Citizen launches new Nighthawk Eco-Drive chronograph with a grey-toned tactical design

Citizen has quietly added a new variant to its Nighthawk lineup. The CA0897-04H has now been announced by Citizen USA. It brings a grey-on-grey colorway to the long-running pilot chronograph series — though as of writing, it doesn't appear anywhere on the Citizen USA website.
The Nighthawk has been part of Citizen's Promaster collection since the late 1980s. It's built around a design ethos borrowed from military helicopter cockpit instruments. Most Nighthawk models feature an inner rotating tachymeter bezel, a screw-down crown, and 200-meter water resistance, and the CA0897-04H carries all of that forward. What's different here is the execution: the 42 mm stainless steel case gets a grey tone rather than the black IP coating seen on most recent Nighthawks, and it ships on a grey nylon strap rather than a bracelet. All that gives it a different visual tone from the existing CA0890-54H, which uses the same movement but comes in steel on a bracelet.
Inside is the B612 Eco-Drive calibre, a solar-powered movement featuring a 1/5-second chronograph measuring up to 60 minutes, a date indicator, and dual-time 12/24-hour display. Like all Eco-Drive watches, it charges from any light source and never needs a battery replacement.
The grey dial, subdials, and nylon strap give the CA0897-04H a tactical, understated look. One could say that it's closer to a field watch aesthetic than the flashier Nighthawk variants. Pricing hasn't been confirmed yet, but the CA0890-54H bracelet model retails around $350-$375, putting the nylon-strap variant likely in a similar/lower range.
