Chrome for Windows on Snapdragon is unleashed on Qualcomm-powered PCs
The Snapdragon X Elite is still waiting in the wings to revitalize (and possibly fully rehabilitate) Windows on ARM in the form of laptops from a range of OEMs such as Lenovo; however, one of its ideal browsers is already here. Google has now revealed that it has been working with Qualcomm to get Chrome for Windows on Snapdragon out there in advance of the potential PC revolution.
The new browser variant is touted to have been tailor-made for platforms such as the X Elite, not to mention its predecessors such as the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3. It is thus backed to set the former's upcoming "role as the premier platform for Windows PCs starting in mid-2024" in stone, according to Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon.
Google's Senior Vice President Hiroshi Lockheimer is also confident that its use will yield "the best possible experience while browsing the Web on current ARM-compatible PCs”.
Qualcomm also asserts that Chrome for Windows on the X Elite has already elicited "a dramatic performance improvement in the Speedometer 2.1 benchmark", although the company neglected to mention what it had been compared to in that test.
Nevertheless, an optimized version of one of the world's most prominent browsers might indeed help the X Elite be taken even more seriously as a potential Intel or Apple M-series rival on its impending release.
