The development of humanoid robots is currently progressing at an incredible pace. In our last article, for instance, we reported on a trial of the latest 1X Neo domestic robot, which is now available to pre-order. This time, however, we'll focus on a viral video that is currently doing the rounds on social media:
The Walker S2 industrial robot was unveiled three months ago, and now a viral video showing scenes that resemble an army of robots is circulating on social media. The video actually depicts hundreds of Walker S2 humanoid robots from Ubtech Robotics marching in step shortly before their mass delivery. The precision with which the robots are lined up in a large warehouse, and their synchronised march, are undeniably impressive.
The footage inevitably evokes associations with creepy science fiction films. Many people find the footage disturbing and frightening, recalling apocalyptic films. While some are enthusiastic about the new technology and see it as a boon to humanity, others fear significant job losses.
In the video below, the humanoid robots demonstrate their autonomy by first removing their battery packs independently, then reinserting them to ensure 24/7 operation, before marching together towards the trucks that will load them. Filmed with a drone, the video provides a 360-degree view of the AI robots and has an almost cinematic quality.
However, since the release of this latest video, heated discussions have been taking place on social media not only regarding potential job losses, but also about the video itself. There have been debates about whether the video is real or simply an AI hoax, which is a common occurrence these days.
The fact that the creator of the video has to explicitly address its authenticity in the caption highlights the public's deep distrust of hyperrealistic, AI-generated content. This debate — whether the displayed perfection is real or computer-generated — reflects the fundamental uncertainty surrounding the speed and accuracy of technological progress. The manufacturer of Walker S2 addresses this in the video caption, as follows:
They said it looked too perfect to be real. But perfection isn't fabricated—it's delicately engineered. This is the historic mass delivery of UBTECH (优必选) Walker S2. The next era of intelligent manufacturing is here. Let's build it together!
