If seeing Marc Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk and others in undignified situations has always been your dream, it can finally come true. The prominent personalities have been reimagined as robot dogs by performance artist Beeple and exhibited in a playpen at Art Basel Miami Beach—and as if that weren't enough, the dogs also poop out pictures.
This seemingly bizarre performance is entitled 'Regular Animals'. The 'pooped out' photos show the world from the perspective of these semi-humanoid, semi-canine creatures, and reflect the individuals' typical style, Beeple explains:
They're constantly taking pictures and reinterpreting the world through the lens of these different characters. [. . .] We’re increasingly seeing the world through the lens of how they would like us to see it, because they control these very powerful algorithms. They judge what we see in the world and for many people, it’s their primary source of news. They have unilateral control over how we see the world, in many ways.
Art Basel Miami Beach opened on 3 December at the Miami Beach Convention Centre. The fair is one of the highlights of Miami Art Week and will remain open until 7 December. Other famous figures among these disturbing creatures include Andy Warhol, Picasso and the artist himself. To find out more about the current exhibition, watch the short video below.
However, Beeple has already caused a stir with other art projects in the past, for example at the height of the NFT art boom, when the provocative artist sold a digital collage made up of thousands of images and mashups of tech culture and capitalism for $69.3 million at Christie’s.
