Canon appears to be keeping the promise it made regarding releasing more compact cameras in the future. We've already seen the Canon PowerShot V1, and more recently, the PowerShot V3 leaked as a sort of power-zoom alternative, but we may now be getting the "new form factor" promised by previous leaks.
A new set of leaks, however, points to an interchangeable lens compact camera that appears to be in development under the EOS camera line instead of the newly-refreshed PowerShot V series. The leaks are for the Canon EOS RV (perhaps EOS R Video?), and it might be Canon's push to finally compete with the likes of the Sony ZV-E10 II.
There are currently two sources of information for the Canon EOS RV, CanonRumors and The New Camera. The latter claims to have an actual preliminary spec sheet for the EOS RV, although the legitimacy of this is questionable, given how early the leaks are. Regardless, the leaked specifications claim that the Canon EOS RV will feature a 24 MP sensor similar to that of the Canon EOS M50 II (which retails for $994.95 on Amazon). As is seen in the leaked images, the sensor sits behind a lens mount, although it's unclear if that's an EF-M mount or the larger RF mount instead.
The EOS RV seems stacked to the gills with ergonomics and video features, though, with plentiful ports, a front-mounted microphone button, and oodles of tactile controls. On the top of the EOS RV, there's what looks like a hot shoe for accessories, large cutouts for a built-in microphone system, and a handful of dials. The shutter is set into what looks like a zoom lever, and it sits in front of twin dials, one of which is obviously a mode dial, while the other looks like an unlabelled programmable affair.
For its compact size, the EOS RV also looks like it will feature quite a large hand grip, which addresses a frequent complaint from compact camera users. It also looks like there will be a side-mounted 1/4-inch thread for tripods, grips, and other accessories. There doesn't seem to be an EVF, though.
Judging by these specifications and what we can glean from the leaked image, the Canon EOS RV looks like it will present a solid balance between enthusiast video features and a form factor that would appeal to generalists as something like a high-quality travel or street photography camera.
