Escura Camera, which first gained fame for its instant film back for Hasselblad cameras, has now showcased a quirky little digital camera that looks just like an instant photo. The Escura InstantSnap, seen at Japan’s CP+ 2025 camera show, is in fact a simple 1.3 MP camera in an unusual body weighing just 28 grams.
It lacks an LCD screen but instead has an open cutout in the credit-card sized body that you line up with your subject to frame it. Getting the framing right will of course be a hit-or-miss at first, but that’s very much the charm of a toy camera like this.
Outside of the shutter release button, the InstantSnap has a small switch button that can be used to switch to a (questionable) video mode, or add effects and frames to still photos. Just don’t expect wonders from the tiny 1.3 MP sensor with fixed shutter speed, or what appears to be a 3.2mm f/2.8 lens, according to PetaPixel.
There’s also a ‘Showa Model’ that has some interesting retro designs on the otherwise featureless body of the camera, as well as special frames and effects.
The Escura InstantSnap will be available in May for 7,000 yen, or roughly $47. While it’s a cute and interesting-looking little device, ultimately, you’ll get more for your money with something a little more functional, like this toy instant camera for children. For not much more money, you can also get the Kodak Printomatic instant camera.
