Just a few months after Nothing launched the Headphone (1) as its first pair of over-ear headphones (read our review), its sub-brand CMF by Nothing, which has now gone independent, has announced its own headphones. The CMF Headphone Pro are described as the first over-ear headphones with a modular design.
Products from Nothing and its CMF sub-brand, are known for their unique designs and features which allow them to stand out from the competition. This tradition hasn't changed with the CMF Headphone Pro which have replaceable ear cushions. CMF will offer different colored ones which owners can personalize their headphones.
The headphones are available in Light Green, Light Grey, and Dark Grey, but a promotional video shows that CMF will also sell Orange ear cushions. So depending on the color you purchase, you can mix and match with three extra colors. You can even choose to use a different colored ear cushion for each earcup.
The CMF Headphone Pro aren't just colorful headphones; they also have some pretty nice features. For starters, instead of buttons for volume controls, CMF decided to go with a dial. This dial also controls playback and active noise cancellation. The headphones also have a slider called the Energy Slider which is used for fine-tuning bass and treble levels.
CMF's first pair of headphones have 40mm drivers with a nickel-coated diaphragm, a 16.5mm copper coil, and a precision bass duct for rich sounds with depth and clarity. They can also analyze a user's ear shape and adjust the sound accordingly for a personalized audio experience.
Like most modern headphones, the IPX2-rated CMF Headphone Pro boast ANC. CMF says they make use of hybrid ANC technology which reduces ambient noise by up to 40dB and automatically adjusts based on the ambient noise level. The headphones have five microphones, a 3.5mm port, Bluetooth 5.4, Bluetooth Multipoint, Spatial audio, support for LDAC with a double Hi-Res certification (wired and wireless). They are compatible with Android, iOS, and Windows with support for Google Fast Pair and Microsoft Swift Pair.
With respect to battery life, the CMF Headphone Pro will provide up to 100 hours of playback and 50 hours of talk time on a single charge (70 hours with LDAC). However, it drops to 50 hours of playback when ANC is turned on (38 hours with LDAC) and 35 hours of talk time with ANC on.
They also have support for fast charging as a quick 5-minute charge will provide 4 hours of playback. The headphones charge via USB-C (a full-charge takes 2 hours). CMF also says users can charge them by connecting them to a phone using a USB-C to USB-C cable. Unfortunately, they do not have support for USB-C audio.
The CMF Headphone Pro are priced at €99 (~$116) in Germany and Austria, CHF 89 in Switzerland, and £79 in the UK. They are also available in the US for $84 making them significantly cheaper than the Nothing Headphone (1) which costs $299 on Amazon. An additional pair of ear cushions will cost €25/£19/$25 available. The headphones and the ear cushions will be available for purchase starting today on the Nothing website. They ship with a 3.5mm to 3.5mm audio cable and a drawstring bag.
