Battlefield 2042 will arrive later this year, with Electronic Arts still targetting an October 22 release. So far, the company has published a few trailers and stills, while an open beta should appear in September.
However, Electronic Arts has already invited people to early closed tests, also referred to as a technical playtest. Unsurprisingly, footage from this playtest has leaked, which has been removed from YouTube and republished elsewhere.
The footage centres on Orbital, a new map that will host 128-player matches. EA has done away with a single-player campaign this time, with Battlefield 2042 only providing online options. The game does have a campaign mode, albeit a multiplayer one, alongside traditional multiplayer modes.
The same footage also shows new vehicles, weapons and Specialists, as you can see below. As far as we can tell, the game was being played in a pre-alpha state at low graphics settings, so it should not represent the final look of EA's next shooter.
