Barcelo goes enterprise: AMD Ryzen Pro 5000 gets new family member with Ryzen 7 Pro 5875U

When AMD split up its mobile Ryzen CPU lineup into Zen 2 "Lucienne" and Zen 3 "Cezanne" last year, the pecking order was clear: Zen 2 was meant for cheaper laptops, and only consumer laptops. Business laptops would exclusively feature Cezanne, as the "Ryzen Pro" chips, AMDs equivalent to vPro, were all Zen 3 based.

With the 2022 generation, AMD is still doing the split lineup thing for their mobile Ryzen CPUs, and this time, the branding is clearly differentiated. Only the new Zen 3+ Rembrandt CPUs are marketed as Ryzen 6000. Barcelo, the Zen 3 Cezanne refresh, is sold as Ryzen 5000, with the focus still being on more affordable laptops.

However, Barcelo will also serve the business market, unlike Lucienne. For this reason, there are three new Ryzen Pro chips for the Ryzen 5000 series. The first laptops with these new business CPUs are the recently announced Lenovo ThinkPads L14 G3 and L15 G3, which are budget models.

The top of the line model of the Barcelo Ryzen Pro chips is the AMD Ryzen 7 Pro 5875U. Compared to the Cezanne predecessor Ryzen 7 Pro 5850U, this Octacore chip is almost unchanged. The maximum clock rate is increased by 100 MHz. Buyers have to make do without RDNA2 GPUs or DDR5 memory, and other features like USB4 that Ryzen 6000 can offer. 

The same is true for the two other Ryzen Pro Barcelo chips: Except for the 100 MHz increase, the Ryzen 3 Pro 5475U and Ryzen 5 Pro 5675U are virtually identical to their predecessors Ryzen 3 Pro 5450U and Ryzen 5 Pro 5650U.
