Bar the Nokia 6 (2018), no new Nokia device will be coming to the US
HMD hit MWC with a bang. The company released a new lineup of devices including the Android Go Nokia 1 and the Android One Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 8 Sirocco. The Nokia 7 Plus, in particular, is of interest to us, as we consider it to be, perhaps, the best unveil at MWC this year. Sadly, that device will not be making its way over to the US anytime soon.
According to HMD CEO Florian Seiche, the company has no plans of selling its devices in the US. This wouldn't be all surprising anyways, as the Nokia 8, HMD's 2017 flagship, wasn't officially sold in the US either. Seiche did confirm that the Nokia 6 (2018) would make its way over to the US, however, albeit in May, and not under any carrier.
It would seem that the US isn't high up on the list of HMD's priorities for now. The company finished 2017 as the 11th largest smartph]one brand in the world, shipping 4.4 million units in Q4, ahead of traditional brands like LG, OnePlus, and Sony. The company already has a significant market share in the UK and other European countries like Russia. It's also the biggest smartphone brand in Vietnam. That considered, it's likely HMD wants to build on its successes in those markets before making its way into the highly competitive US market.
