Ban has no limits: Sony is randomly shutting users out of their PSN accounts for no apparent reason
Sony has been handing out PSN bans left, right and centre to unsuspecting players, and nobody knows why. The information comes from multiple users on X, ResetEra and Reddit who claim their PSN ID got permanently suspended for an unspecified "terms of service" violation. Thankfully, Sony's support representatives have confirmed that it is due to an internal error and not actual ToS violations.
However, Sony has not officially acknowledged the issue nor issued a statement. Players who got unfairly banned continue to remain locked out of their accounts, effectively denying them access to the content that they paid for. It is unclear as to how many players are affected, but the problem seems to be global.
For now, the only course of action, as dumb as it may seem, is to stay away from your PlayStation (US$499 on Amazon) altogether or operate it in offline mode. There's no telling when Sony will acknowledge the issue, let alone fix it. Additionally, some unlucky players might still be stuck with a ban even after the problem is dealt with.
This seemingly random wave of bans, combined with Sony's decision to deny access to all Discovery content purchased via the PlayStation Store, paints a grim picture for the increasingly digital-only future we're headed towards.
