Just to put context to our testing, the ROG Strix SCAR 17 2021’s GPU is a 130W TGP card. This is outclassed by the 165W TGP of the Lenovo in our comparison. Still, these are very high numbers for a laptop not running a jet engine cooler. In some games, particularly CSGO, the GPU actually relaxes a bit and can dip to around 300FPS but this allows the GPU to operate at a lower clock speed as well and not tax the CPU as much as the maximum draw. That said, this is evident in our battery test where general use sees the ROG Strix SCAR 17 2021 last almost 30 minutes longer versus the Legion. Gaming does match them but that’s a moot point as the best gaming experience would be when plugged in. I can easily recommend this laptop for looks alone but as I mentioned, some configurations are a better value than others and would prove an excellent gaming platform regardless.

While I may call Asus’ 17-inch beast my dream laptop, other options on the market surpass it in terms of gaming specs and price. The Alienware m17 R4 delivers higher performance in several demanding PC games, and there are more affordable models available at around $2,499 ($500 less than the Asus). Still, if you’re looking for a gaming laptop that never fails to impress, the Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 won’t disappoint.

17.30": This display size is a standard format for desktop replacements (DTR). The DTR laptops are heavier to carry, need more power, but texts are easy to read and high resolutions are no problem. DTR are mainly intended for stationary desk use, where weight and energy hunger don't matter. In return, you enjoy the advantages of high resolutions (more details, better legibility).» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.
2.7 kg:
With this weight, a laptop is rather heavier than average. Devices in this range shine more with screen size and performance than with mobility.
