The ROG Phone 5s is an excellent phone, that can easily handle anything you throw at it in daily life. It’s got really high specs, plenty of RAM and has a distinct look to it that may be a little “flashy” for some, but isn’t out of place even in professional settings. Probably the biggest problem with it is that it is quite big. If I had to sum this up in a single sentence it would be that the ROG Phone 5s is a stunning device that excels at almost everything with software that doesn’t invade heavily on the experience of the phone. Provided you don’t mind the camera not keeping up with $2,000.00 flagships this may well be one of the best buys of 2022 so far. At the time of publishing this review, the ROG phone 5s is down to $1,199.00 from $1,499.00 at JB Hi-Fi. Even at full price, I’d be happy to recommend this to a lot of users.

If you're a gamer and the ROG Phone 5s fits in your budget, there's no reason you shouldn't buy this beast smartphone over everything else on the market. If you already own a ROG Phone 5, you can skip the ROG Phone 5s and not miss out on anything. Asus has launched the ROG Phone 5s at a starting price of Rs 49,990. For the price, the smartphone has a lot to offer in terms of performance, features and overall experience. It’s a ROG Phone after all and no doubt it lives up to the brand name. But, there are certain things that Asus could have done better here. For instance, they could have at least launched the smartphone with the latest Android operating system or offered the new 50MP primary sensor in the phone. So, the question to be asked here is whether you should buy the ROG Phone 5s or wait for the next ROG Phone or look for something else in the market. The simple answer is that, if you are looking for a smartphone for gaming on a sensible budget, then ROG Phone 5s will bring that smile to your face. It offers all the features that a gamer would ever need in a smartphone be it in terms of performance, game-centric features or display. It is an incremental upgrade so don’t go looking for all-new design or features but even without that this is a solid gaming smartphone.

The ROG Phone 5s is quite a device. It has one of the best displays on a smartphone, sheer power, gaming-centric tweaks, and hours of battery life. My only concern is that it’s a large phone and its camera system is not comparable to other high-end phones. The ROG Phone 5s shows Asus’ faith in developing a gaming-focused smartphone even when every smartphone is a gaming device. A phone like this is total overkill for most but it does have a niche audience who are open to the idea of a mobile gaming rig in the smartphone form factor.

You have the Realme GT at Rs. 37,999 that offers a similar 90fps gameplay. Then comes the OnePlus 9RT at Rs. 42,999 with support for similar gaming settings. The difference, however, is the consistency. In a gaming session that extends over an hour, the ROG 5S continues to deliver frame rates from where it started, whereas its competitors face engine stalls after some time. On the other side of the spectrum, you also have the iPhone 12, which sells around Rs. 55,000 for the base 64GB model. Yes, we agree that the iPhone 12 has the potential to deliver smooth 60fps gameplay, but it drags in the OS priority of Android vs. iOS. Also, you won’t get 90fps support on the iPhone 12. Now that’s something even the Android counterparts of ROG 5S offer on the table. The ASUS ROG Phone 5S is indeed a true gaming phone that can run longer marathons. The device is a good match for you if gaming is your topmost priority. The styling on the ROG 5S may also attract some users who may not game much.

The Asus ROG Phone 5s runs ROG UI on top of Android 11, and my unit had the September 2021 Android security patch. The UI is highly customised and the look should appeal to gamers more than the average user. You do get a few apps such as Facebook, Instagram, Facebook Messenger, and Netflix preinstalled, apart from the usual suite of Google apps. These can be uninstalled to free up some space. The Asus ROG Phone 5s has impressive hardware and is aimed squarely at gamers. There isn't any direct competition in the market for it, and Asus is simply building on its lead in this segment. With only small differences between the ROG Phone 5s and its predecessor, you'd be better off choosing the newer model, since prices are officially the same – unless you can find the ROG Phone 5 on sale while it's still in stock. I will address these queries in the full review of the Asus ROG Phone 5s, coming soon.

The ROG Phone 5s handles most of the things very well including performance, haptics, audio and especially gaming. However, disappointments including the tint in the display, average cameras, heating, no timely updates and a bulky design collectively lead to a conclusion that the ROG Phone 5s might not be your choice at this price. We asked the question if the ROG Phone 5 is going beyond gaming, and at that time, it seemed like it did. But ROG Phone 5s is proof that it didn’t move beyond gaming. You may buy the phone solely for gaming but that is it.

The ASUS ROG Phone 5s starts at Rs 49,999 and for the price, offers a fantastic gaming experience. What’s more, the device offers a stunning display too and the smartphone’s audio setup is in a league of its own as well. But, you could say the same for the ROG Phone 5 too, which launched a while ago. Furthermore, the smartphone can’t hold a candle to devices from OnePlus and Xiaomi’s stables, which offer similar performance for less. Lest I forget, the handsets also feature faster charging speeds, as well as more versatile cameras. In the end, the ROG Phone 5s could face an uphill battle in the Indian market, especially considering that the Snapdragon 8 Gen1 backed smartphones are just around the corner.

The 'S' version of the ROG Phone 5 may be marketed as a gaming phone - and it is a wonderful one at that - but it's also just a fantastic all-round device. That means it's great for consuming media and doing pretty much everything else - it even has one decent camera. With its big, bright and speedy refresh screen, it's a brilliant phone for watching movies, while its combination of practical choices like a big battery, superb audio and a headphone port mean it's got everything you need to ensure that power isn't wasted at any time. In the end, the ROG Phone 5S is a great gaming and media phone - but it's tricky to see any tangible reason for it to exist when there's already the earlier ROG Phone 5 model.

Whether you get the ROG Phone 5 or the ROG Phone 5s Pro, you’re getting the best gaming phone ecosystem in the Android camp. Does Asus make the best gaming phone of them all? That’s debatable. Apple’s iPhones get iOS’s gaming catalogue, which is more polished than that of Android, and there are gazillions of iPhone gaming accessories. With Asus making quality gaming accessories for its phone – an excellent controller and a smart fan and kickstand, as well as loading the ROG Phone 5s Pro with nifty touch-sensitive buttons, it’s definitely the one for out and proud gaming nerds. Factor in the levelled-up RGB lighting, a plethora of ports and mighty audio options, and nothing comes close. Where the Asus ROG Phone 5s Pro drops the ball is its camera. Is it bad? Definitely not. Can you get more for less? Absolutely; not least of all in the Google Pixel camp. So there you have it; if media playback and gaming is your thing, you consider yourself a gaming nut and you don’t mind spending big to get the most extra phone on the block

Asus has always dominated the premium gaming smartphone segment from the start. The Asus ROG Phone 5s and 5s Pro smartphones also follow the same legacy and offer remarkable features that unlock the processing limits. From which, you can take the gaming session to the next level without any interruptions from hardware or software issues. Overall, you’ll get everything you need in a gaming-centric smartphone and meet the needs of all gamers. Anyway, you can choose which one you think this device will satisfy your desire to play. But on the other hand, if you’re looking for something affordable, you can also check the ZTE nubia Red Magic 6s Pro phones that add value for money.

It is a small display format for smartphones. You shouldn't be severely defective in vision, and you won't see much detail on the screen and only have a small resolution available. For that, the device should be small and handy, easy to transport.
