Apple is the world's most admired company according to Fortune while Microsoft, Nvidia, and Samsung are all ranked as leaders in their industries
Apple is at the top of the 2021 “World’s Most Admired Companies” list from Fortune magazine. The Cupertino company is also classed as the number one in its industry, which Fortune has classified as “Computers”. The US tech giant received top ratings for every sector, including people management, quality of products/services, and innovation. Unsurprisingly, Apple is joined by Amazon (which also heads the “Internet Services and Retailing” class) and Microsoft (number one in “Computer Software”) in occupying the top three places in Fortune’s list. The highest-ranked company that is not classified under the broad definition of “Computers and Communication” is Walt Disney in fourth place.
US tech firms are abundant in the Fortune list, with Cisco Systems topping “Network and Other Communications Equipment” and Nvidia heading up “Semiconductors”. Alphabet (parent company of Google) has to settle for seventh place overall and second in its industry behind Amazon, while Dell is ranked as second to only Apple in the "Computers" sector. But there is also plenty of room for non-US businesses: Irish company Accenture is the leader for “Information Technology Services” while the South Korean OEM Samsung is awarded the industry leader position for “Electronics”. Popular laptop maker Asus enjoys a high placing of 78th on the list and is the highest-ranked company based in Taiwan out of any industry.
China is not ignored in the list from Fortune, with Alibaba snagging a respectable 61st position out of 332 companies represented. Online retailer JD.com and the massive Chinese tech conglomerate Tencent are also present. However, once again it is Apple that not only conquers the tech world, but also the business world in general. With 2021 releases for the company expected to include the iPhone 13 (or whatever name the next iPhone range receives), the Apple Watch Series 7, new MacBook Pro models, and new versions of the iPad Pro and iPad mini, it’s easy to imagine the firm topping the same list next year. With the Apple Car and AR Smart Glasses also in the works, Apple could rule the business world for quite some time yet.
