Reviews for the Apple iPhone 12 mini
Smartphones are getting bigger and bigger, but Apple offers a real alternative with the iPhone 12 mini, which is unique in the high-end segment with its 5.4-inch screen. However, the small form factor also poses problems. Find out whether Apple's mini mix works out in this review.

There’s really very little (pun unintended) about the iPhone 12 mini that I dislike. In a world of typically huge smartphones that are hard to hold and use, it’s refreshing to see Apple offering something genuinely compact for those that still want it.

If you have already moved to a bigger phone, don't look back to the iPhone 12 mini unless you can't stand a phone with a 6-inch or bigger screen. But if you are still a user of a phone with a small screen, and you prefer small screens, the iPhone 12 mini is for you. It is also, unlike say a phone such as the Pixel 4A which is compact but with more mainstream design and hardware, a phone that is as premium as they come. It is perfect for people who want a premium phone with a smaller screen.

The iPhone 12 Mini is a powerhouse which comfortably fits in the hand. It adopts a stunning OLED display, A14 Bionic Chip, silky smooth iOS 14 software and 5G from its larger and more expensive siblings. We’re weary of big phones, yet sacrificing camera quality and performance is out-of-the-question and that’s where the iPhone 12 Mini, like Sony's Xperia 5 II, hits the sweet spot. Battery life isn’t world-beating, but it’s a small price to pay for pure pocket gold.

This will be an excellent upgrade for anyone still clinging to an iPhone 6s or older. Of course it would have been nice if this model had been positioned and priced lower than the outgoing iPhone 11. Even so, the iPhone 12 mini is likely to be the new default iPhone for many people simply because it's the most affordable (relatively speaking) of the new 2020 family. Priced Rs. 10,000 lower than the iPhone 12 (and a whopping Rs. 50,000 lower than the iPhone 12 Pro), the value proposition does look good.

In 2020, phones are big. Even the small ones are big. The iPhone 12 Mini is wonderful because it's not big. It's truly small. When Apple announced the Mini along with the iPhone 12, 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max it was a remarkable moment for small phone lovers like myself. For a long time, we've wanted Apple to make a truly small iPhone in the vein of the iPhone 5, 5S or original SE. Earlier this year, Apple got our hopes up a bit, when it released a new iPhone SE which put the brains of the iPhone 11 Pro into the smallish body of the iPhone 8. It's a solid phone for the price, but it's tucked inside a three-year-old design.

The 12 mini is the best of both worlds, combining the all-screen design of recent iPhones with the petite chassis of the older ones. It also happens to be brilliantly featured and specced, with superb cameras and processing power to burn.

The iPhone 12 mini is a nice throwback to just how small flagship smartphones were 5 to 10 years ago. In an era where smartphones are half the size of our heads, it’s always a breath of fresh air to have one that can be used with just one hand again. Just… make it a habit to bring a portable charger with this little fella, though.

The iPhone 12 Mini has a 5.4-inch display and costs $729 (£699, AU$1,199) while the iPhone 12 has a 6.1-inch screen and costs $829 (£799, AU$1,349). If you activate either phone on a carrier when you buy it, that price drops $30. Also, carriers are running a number of deals and discounts on these phones, especially if you trade in an old phone.

Apple's iPhone 12 Mini is one of the best small phones you can buy. And at $700, it's a no-brainer for anyone who wants a tiny but powerful handset running iOS.

Image quality is stunning throughout, thanks in part to Apple’s Smart HDR 3 system, which uses processing grunt and AI to enhance images as you take them. The phone also comes with a robust Night Mode option that handles low-light shooting brilliantly; the catch is that you sometimes have to hold your phone very still for a few seconds to capture the shot.

iPhone 12 mini makes no compromises. It’s not a watered-down version of the larger iPhone 12; it is an iPhone 12 that’s squeezed into a smaller body. It has a gorgeous Super Retina XDR display, a blazing-fast A14 Bionic processor, great cameras, 5G and Face ID.

If you’re looking for an iPhone 12 and think picking up the mini version will save you £100/$100, then I think you’re looking at it wrong. You shouldn’t buy this iPhone because it’s cheaper, you should buy it if you’ve been hankering for a smaller phone and are happy with the sacrifices that come with it. For most people, I still think the regular iPhone 12 is the best buy.

If the price is the major draw, we can definitely understand that. If you are after the compact size, that's fine, too, but our only advice is to make sure you still want it by trying it out in person before committing to a purchase.

Maybe it’s a natural predisposition to finding smaller things cute and thus forgiving them, but I can’t quite stay mad at the iPhone 12 mini despite Apple’s add-ons and extras. Holding it is just oddly fun: the scale magnifies the design effort Apple went to, and in terms of size and weight there are simply fewer concessions to make in return for having the features of the latest phone.

In my books, the iPhone 12 mini is solving a specific problem, that of size. This is the best, and maybe only, phone for those who want a compact phone that fits in their hand, slips into a jeans pocket or small clutch purse and does not burst out of their shirt pocket. This is also a cheaper iPhone 12. Yes, this is the ideal phone for those who was a powerful iPhone that is smaller and cheaper. The more mainstream users can look at the iPhone 12.

The iPhone 12 mini is a pocket-sized powerhouse, packed inside a cute, compact chassis, that shocked me with its beastly performance. In the same way you wouldn’t expect the frail, rail-thin underdog to take down its Goliath rival, I had my doubts about the puny-looking iPhone 12 due to its incy-wincy form factor.

The iPhone 12 mini is built for those who have been dreaming of a small phone but don’t want to compromise on quality, and Apple has done an exceedingly good job at making that a reality. It isn’t perfect, with middling battery life and a high price for just 64GB of storage, but if you can put those negatives aside you’ll love what the iPhone 12 mini can do in its miniature package. The camera is versatile, the screen is fantastic, it comes with reams of power and the added benefits of 5G and MagSafe mean this is a phone that will last you for years to come.

If battery life issues don’t bother you or you could manage it effectively, there’s a lot to like about the iPhone 12 Mini. Its compact pocketable size is refreshing (not to mention cute), the build quality is very high, the display is fabulous, performance is class-leading, and it takes outstanding photos and videos. If you have always felt that the size of phones was getting out of hand, the iPhone 12 Mini is the perfect antidote.

The smallest of the iPhone 12 range, but the mini is a fantastic little device that shouldn't be underestimated. Its lightweight and compact design, stunning display, great cameras, and smooth performance are all big plusses. Its battery life isn't amazing and the lack of telephoto lens does mean you can't zoom in when taking photos without losing quality, but they are really the only things we can complain about.

People who want a smaller phone will be hard-pressed to find a device as compelling as the iPhone 12 mini. That's because Apple took nearly everything that worked well in the larger iPhone 12 including its high-powered A14 Bionic chipset and excellent cameras and packed them into a pint-sized frame. The catch: While the mini offers the same great performance as the larger model, its battery life leaves much to be desired.

The iPhone 12 mini feels like the first iPhone in a long time with a different goal. It was designed around the human hand and real pockets. It is an object that doesn’t aim to be judged against other smartphones (which are mostly big now), but to be judged simply as an object you need to hold. You judge a spatula or can opener or whatever by whether it’s easy to grip, by whether it fits in your hand. It’s about time we got back to judging smartphones that way, too.

Overall, though, the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini offer photography and performance capabilities nearly identical to the iPhone 12 Pro series'. That said, the devices' low-light performance isn't quite as solid because the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini don't feature a LiDAR sensor.

This display is quite big for a smartphone but frequently used for smartphones.
Large display-sizes allow higher resolutions. So, details like letters are bigger. On the other hand, the power consumption is lower with small screen diagonals and the devices are smaller, more lightweight and cheaper.

Apple: Apple Inc. is an American multinational corporation which designs and manufactures consumer electronics and software products. Apple software includes the Mac OS X operating system but nowadays Macbooks are also able to run Windows. In the laptop sector, Apple's market share was 9.3% in 2014 and 10.3% in 2016. The latter corresponds to the 5th place. In the smartphone segment, Apple achieved 15.3% in the first quarter of 2016, which means a market share loss when compared to the 18.3% in same quarter of the previous year.
Nevertheless, Apple ranked second place behind Samsung in both years.
There are tons of reviews on Apple laptops, smartphones and tablets. The ratings are significantly above-average (as of 2016).
